The All India Market Capitalization index , tracked on the Bombay Stock index, lost over 31.06 trillion rupees, or about $371 billion on June 4 alone. India's markets saw their worst one-day loss in about four years as the electoral performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party fell short of expectations. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition, however, clinched 294 seats, managing to retain the parliamentary majority, crossing the 272 required to form the government. In the previous general election in 2019, the BJP secured 303 seats, and the NDA won 353 seats. A Goldman Sachs report issued early Wednesday said that "even with a reduced majority, we don't think macro stability will be compromised."

Diamond Sports — which operates its networks under the Bally Sports brand — has been under bankruptcy protection since March of last year. The leagues are worried the owner of the largest portfolio of regional sports networks won't have a viable business plan sorted out ahead of the 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, numerous NBA and NHL teams have reached deals with local broadcast station groups to carry local games. Diamond Sports must put together a reorganization plan, outlining its future outside of bankruptcy protection, and receive court approval to move forward with it. The NBA has pushed for Diamond Sports to have "a very clear business plan no later than July," Indelicato said Tuesday.

Other Trump cases are in suspended animationTwo federal cases against Trump, in which he’s also pleaded not guilty, are in a holding pattern. At the same time, multiple disputes in pre-trial motions have put the looming federal trial in Florida over Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents into suspended animation. But if Trump wins, he could appoint an attorney general who could halt the federal cases in their tracks. Garland is also likely to face scrutiny over the Hunter Biden trial. Republicans celebrated when a plea deal, which they saw as “sweetheart” treatment for Hunter Biden, collapsed in court.

The two contenders to become Britain’s next prime minister clashed angrily over tax, immigration and health policy on Tuesday in a televised debate that at times descended into ill-tempered exchanges as the political rivals talked over each other. The confrontation came exactly a month before a pivotal general election that will determine whether the opposition Labour Party can capitalize on its strong lead in opinion polls and end 14 turbulent years of Conservative-led government during which the party has had five different prime ministers. Almost as soon as the debate started, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claimed that his opponent, the Labour leader Keir Starmer, would raise taxes on Britons by 2,000 pounds a year if he won the election, repeating the claim numerous times. “Absolute garbage,” Mr. Starmer eventually responded. The Labour Party said that the figure was based on faulty assumptions, and Jonathan Ashworth, a senior party lawmaker, claimed in an interview with Sky News after the debate that Mr. Sunak was lying.

Mission teams are working to understand what caused an automatic hold of Starliner's launch minutes before liftoff and focusing on safely extracting the crew. Currently, the rocket and spacecraft are in a safe configuration, according to the NASA broadcast. Later today, the rocket tanks will be drained of propellant, which is called detanking. Meanwhile, mission teams will analyze the countdown sequence to find out what caused the hold, which remains unknown at this time. The Ground Launch Sequencer, or computer that essentially launches the rocket, performs key actions during the final 10 minutes before launch, like pressurizing the fuel tanks for launch, transitioning the vehicle to its onboard batteries from ground electrical systems and configuring other systems for launch.

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft atop the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket rolls out in Florida on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Leaders from Boeing, NASA and the United Launch Alliance, or ULA, held a press conference later Saturday afternoon to provide updates on the malfunction and the status of the next launch attempt. "The disappointment lasts for about three seconds," said Mark Nappi, Vice President and Program Manager of Boeing's Commercial Crew Program. Holds in a rocket launch countdown – as well as "scrubs," indicating a launch delay – are a common occurrence in the industry. Two NASA astronauts are aboard the Starliner capsule, which would be carried by United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket to the International Space Station.

CNN —Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese transferred their already storied collegiate rivalry into the professional ranks of the WNBA on Saturday, and it was Clark who came out on top. But it was far from an individual effort with Clark’s teammates helping lift the Fever to their first home win of the season. A year later, Clark and Iowa got a measure of revenge by defeating Reese and LSU in the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA tournament. While the rivalry between Clark and Reese was the major talking point around the game, there was a tense moment late in the third quarter elsewhere. Clark and the Indiana Fever were able to record an important home win.

Boeing 's first Starliner flight with astronauts on board was called off in the final minutes on Saturday. Holds in a rocket launch countdown – as well as "scrubs," indicating a launch delay – are a common occurrence in the industry. Two NASA astronauts are aboard the Starliner capsule, which would be carried by United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket to the International Space Station. Depending on the cause of the launch scrub, Boeing and NASA can reschedule the launch for another attempt 24 hours later, or target alternative launch dates of June 5th or June 6th. Saturday's crew flight test represents the final major step before receiving NASA certification to begin regular missions.

Real Madrid had the celebratory jerseys ready as soon as its place in the Champions League final was secured. As the players raced to one another, exulting in yet another heart-stopping, nerve-shredding win, staff members sprinted onto the field after them, ensuring each star was correctly attired. The shorthand ran the risk of coming across as hubris: Real Madrid’s 15th Champions League title was still one win away. The Champions League, as far as the team that has won it twice as often as anyone else is concerned, very much belongs to Real Madrid. That belief has put the Spanish club at the center of a power struggle whose stakes include nothing less than control over the future of European soccer.

Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a transcribed conversation with Timothy Schultz, who won the Powerball Lottery in 1999. A few months before I won the $28 million Powerball jackpot, I had a vivid dream that I'd already won. I immediately remembered telling several people I had the winning ticket the night before. A family member explicitly told me I got something for nothing by winning the lottery and should keep giving them and others money. I also started my "Lottery, Dreams and Fortune" podcast where I interview other major prize and lottery winners.

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are traveling to Philadelphia on Wednesday to announce the rollout of a new coalition aimed at bolstering support from Black voters, who are vital to their re-election but have broadcast frustration with the president in a series of polls. The president and vice president will unveil the effort, Black Voters for Biden-Harris, during a rally at Girard College, a predominantly Black college preparatory school in Philadelphia. They will be joined by several prominent Black Democrats, including Lt. Gov. After the rally, dozens of Black leaders will embark on a nationwide “week of action” to mobilize Black voters in battleground states, according to the Biden campaign. The event is only the latest attempt by the Biden campaign to win back support from Black voters, who have long been known as the “backbone” of the Democratic Party.

Venezuelan officials rescinded an invitation to the European Union to observe the upcoming July 28 presidential elections, another stark sign that President Nicolás Maduro is unlikely to cede power despite allowing an opposition candidate to run against him. After months of intensified repression by the Maduro government — which banned legitimate challengers from the ballot, jailed political opponents and cracked down on civil society — the country’s electoral authority surprised many in April when it allowed the former diplomat Edmundo González to register as an opposition candidate. The Venezuelan government has been choked by sanctions from the United States and the European Union on the country’s vital oil industry, and some experts say Mr. Maduro allowed Mr. González to run only because it might help him sway Washington and its allies to ease up on the penalties. The president of the council, Elvis Amoroso, said in a televised broadcast that he was rescinding the invitation until the E.U. lifted “the unilateral and genocidal coercive sanctions imposed on our people.”

Bill Walton, a basketball center whose extraordinary passing and rebounding skills helped him win two national college championships with U.C.L.A. A redheaded hippie and devoted Grateful Dead fan, Walton was a 6-foot-11 acolyte of the renowned U.C.L.A. He was named the national college player of the year three times. Burkina Faso extends military rule for five years

CNN —Burkina Faso’s military regime will extend its rule by five years under a new agreement reached during national consultations on Saturday, the talks’ chairman Colonel Moussa Diallo said on state television. A video of Traore signing the amended accord in front of a cheerful crowd was broadcast on Burkinabè state TV on Saturday. Most political party activities have been suspended in the country under the military rule. Burkina Faso, plagued by recurrent jihadist violence that has claimed thousands of lives for almost a decade, has seen two military coups in 2022. The first one in January brought Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba to power, before being himself overthrown in September of the same year by Captain Traoré.
