The Olympic men’s golf competition was in the hands of Jon Rahm. In the battle for bronze, Japan’s Hideki Matsuayama shot a final-round 65 to finish at 17-under-par, two shots behind Scheffler and one behind Fleetwood. Scheffler has won seven of his last 11 outings, all coming in majors or signature events with limited fields. The biggest winner this week was perhaps golf as an Olympic sport. Embattled Republican Rep. George Santos of New York took a step Tuesday toward a possible bid for a second term in the House, where he is currently under investigation. Santos' campaign filed a statement of candidacy for the 2024 election cycle with the Federal Election Commission, a move that could signal the freshman lawmaker's intent to run for reelection. After winning his seat, the New York Times reported that Santos appeared to have fabricated key details of his background. Joseph Murray, a lawyer for Santos' campaign, could not confirm whether the congressman was indeed seeking reelection. Santos was sworn into Congress under a cloud of scandal earlier this year, after the bombshell New York Times report questioned key details about his personal and professional life.

One of those was the political arm of the Campaign Legal Center, a prominent DC watchdog group. Insider has learned that Bankman-Fried's donations funded more than 90% of the political arm in 2021. Bankman-Fried donated $760,000 to the Campaign Legal Center's action fund in 2021, according to a spokesperson for the organization. Insider previously reported that Bankman-Fried donated more than $2.5 million to the Campaign Legal Center and its affiliate organizations since 2021. Under its action group, the Campaign Legal Center filed a number of prominent lawsuits in 2021.

Brendan Quinn, a spokesperson for the Campaign Legal Center, says the nonprofit organization cannot return or give away Bankman-Fried's money because the money is already spent. Asked whether the Campaign Legal Center would consider disgorging an amount of money equivalent to what Bankman-Fried contributed, Quinn noted that the Campaign Legal Center is not a political candidate or committee. The Campaign Legal Center has not yet provided Insider a copy, first requested December 2, of the most recent IRS 990 tax document filed by Campaign Legal Center Action, its advocacy arm. Former President Donald Trump has been a frequent target of the Campaign Legal Center's legal and ethics efforts.
