Hooters closes dozens of restaurants
  + stars: | 2024-06-24 | by ( Jordan Valinsky | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
New York CNN —Hooters is the latest chain to close dozens of locations across the United States, blaming tough economic challenges including rising food and labor costs. “Like many restaurants under pressure from current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a select number of underperforming stores,” a spokesperson told CNN. In that time prices ticked up 0.2% at limited service spots, which include fast casual and fast food joints. The increases, particularly in fast food prices, have caused customers to pull back on spending and complain online, eroding the sector’s reputation for affordability. It’s not just Hooters feeling the financial brunt from cash-conscious customers: Applebee’s, TGI Fridays, Boston Market, California Pizza Kitchen and bankrupt Red Lobster have all recently closed restaurants.

We can't predict what the Fed will do or how that will impact mortgage rates. Yes, even as high interest rates make buying a home with a mortgage more expensive! On one hand, interest rates may drop so buying a home with a mortgage is more affordable. Or we could say there's still massive demand in the Boston market despite the jump in interest rates. Get the lowest mortgage rate you canPretty obvious advice if you want to get a mortgage now, right?

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Labor officials in New Jersey have lifted a stop-work order that had temporarily shut down more than two dozen Boston Market restaurants after the owner paid more than $630,000 in back wages to hundreds of workers. The Department of Labor had issued the stop-work order on Aug. 15 against 27 restaurants across the state after an investigation found multiple violations of workers’ rights. The order was lifted after the 314 employees received all their back pay, officials announced late Thursday. There are 31 Boston Market restaurants in New Jersey and 310 nationwide, according to its website. Subsequently, nearly three dozen additional complaints were received naming several Boston Market locations in New Jersey.

McDonald's is creating a spinoff restaurant chain called CosMc's, executives said Thursday. "CosMc's is a small format concept with all the DNA of McDonald's, but with its own unique personality," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said. The name for the new brand comes from CosMc, a McDonaldland mascot who appeared in advertisements in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The brand will revive CosMc after the return of another McDonald's mascot, Grimace, jolted its U.S. business. "This quarter, if I'm being honest, the theme was Grimace," Kempczinski said.

American and JetBlue say that working together would make them more viable challengers in New York and Boston markets. American Airlines Group and JetBlue Airways Corp. will defend their partnership in a trial starting this week against government allegations that they are squelching competition in New York and Boston and harming consumers throughout the country. The Justice Department, along with six states and the District of Columbia, filed an antitrust lawsuit last year to block a 2020 agreement between the two airlines to sell seats on one another’s flights along certain routes, pool airport slots, coordinate schedules and share revenue from flights within the scope of the partnership in the Northeast.
