REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File PhotoWASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States’ trade deficit increased less than expected in October, suggesting trade could contribute to economic growth in the fourth quarter. The Commerce Department said on Friday the trade gap rose 1.7% to $63.1 billion in October. Data for September was revised to show a $62.1 billion deficit instead of $63.9 billion as previously reported. Trade was a drag on gross domestic product in the third quarter for the first time since the second quarter of 2019. That followed a record 31.4% pace of contraction in the second quarter.

BOSTON (Reuters) - Massachusetts lawmakers on Tuesday approved a major police reform bill in the wake of protests over George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis that creates a new system for officer accountability, restricts no-knock warrants and bans chokeholds. FILE PHOTO: Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker speaks to incoming U.S. citizens during an official Naturalization Ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., May 6, 2019. The Massachusetts legislation faced strong opposition from police unions. The House voted 92-67 to approve the legislation after the Senate voted 28-12 in favor. The Massachusetts legislation also creates what lawmakers say would be a first-in-the-nation statewide moratorium on biometric surveillance systems, including facial recognition technology.

A recent survey showed that more than half of millennial women defer to their spouses on financial issues. No matter your gender, though, participating in your own financial life should be a priority. In fact, surveys show over half of millennial women defer financial decisions to their spouses. While that survey only looked at millennial women, it doesn't matter your age or your gender. When you share a home and a life with someone, you should be equally involved in the financial decision making of that household.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. consumer spending rose more than expected in September, but decreasing benefits for millions of unemployed Americans, cooling temperatures and a resurgence in COVID-19 cases across the nation could crimp spending in the fourth quarter. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast consumer spending rising 1% in September. Still, consumer spending remains below its level at the start of the year, held back by outlays on services like air travel and hotel accommodation. A jaw-dropping 40.7% pace of growth in consumer spending accounted for 76.3% to the bounce back in GDP. Despite the stronger-than-expected jump in consumer spending last month, inflation remained benign.

Of that number, at least seven NBA players have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the NBA, including Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kevin Durant and three of his teammates. Doctors and patients are expressing concern that NBA players and celebrities are getting preferred access to tests for the COVID-19 coronavirus while the general public and people with symptoms have to wait. Many doctors are left wondering how the NBA is getting access to so many COVID-19 tests when they don't have access themselves. The Commissioner says when Rudy Gobert first tested positive, the Jazz did not ask to be tested. NBA Players Association Executive Director Michelle Roberts unapologetically says this isn't an NBA problem but a government problem.
