Because the rat poison does not kill the animal for several days, there's time for an owl to prey on it and also injest the poison. Murray told Tufts Now that the numbers of raptors with rat poison seen by the clinic had steadily increased. Raccoons, foxes, skunks, coyotes, and house pets can also be exposed to rat poison, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. While some cities are amping up the use of rat poison, others are addressing the threat posed to wildlife. The use of rat poison has been restricted in California for years, though the rodenticides continued to show up in animals that were not being targeted.

CNN —Golf courses, despite occupying large green spaces, are not necessarily good for the environment. Santa Barbara's Ocean Meadows golf course has been returned to its wetland state, which doubles as a flood defense for the city. Rivers and streams are often diverted or altered to make way for a golf course, but conservationists want them to flow freely. In other areas of the country, local councils are repurposing unprofitable municipal golf courses to create more natural spaces. A golf course turned nature reserve, Yalukit Willam can now be enjoyed by the Melbourne residents.

Michael Jordan has agreed to sell his majority stake in his NBA team the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets are valued at $3 billion, per ESPN — more than 10 times the sum Jordan paid in 2010. Michael Jordan could bag a billion-dollar windfall after he agreed to sell his NBA team for what's likely be a huge premium on the price he paid 13 years ago. Jordan previously sold a minority stake in the Hornets to Plotkin, who is the founder of investment firm Tallwoods Capital, and Daniel Sundheim in 2019. Rapper J. Cole is also part of the group that will buy Jordan's majority stake, the Hornets said.

Michael Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Hornets and one of the most storied athletes in sports history, has agreed to sell his majority share in the team to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, two private equity investors. The team, in its announcement of the sale, did not disclose what percentage of his stake Jordan would sell, but said he would remain a minority investor. Jordan, a North Carolina native, first purchased the team in 2010 for $275 million, when it was known as the Bobcats. The acquiring group also includes the country music star Eric Church and the rapper J. Cole, both of whom are from North Carolina. Jordan won six championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s and is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player ever.

It may be good news for the cotton rats, but it could spell serious danger for humans. But one thing they don't seem to have a taste for is cotton rats. So much so, scientists warn that cotton rats "now dominate the community" in parts of the Florida Everglades where pythons are prevalent, wildlife ecologist Robert McCleery told LiveScience. They found that death rates for cotton rats were about the same in both regions. Let's say a mosquito bites an infected cotton rat and then later feasts on your blood — you could become infected.

SpaceX in November 2021 updated the look of the Starlink dish from a circular shape to a rectangle, making it thinner and lighter than the original model. Gwynne Shotwell, the president of SpaceX, said in April 2021 the company had reduced the manufacturing cost of each Starlink terminal from $3,000 to $1,500. Despite the high price, Starlink customers were only charged $499 for the kit, she added.
