He struggled to hold Mr. Trump accountable for his lies, his failures and his chilling plans. “The greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election. CNN —US consumer confidence teetered slightly in June as Americans grew a little more wary about the future, new data released Tuesday showed. The Conference Board’s latest consumer confidence index dipped to a reading of 100.4 in June from 101.3 in May. Readings of Americans’ confidence are typically closely watched, as consumer spending accounts for nearly 70% of US economic activity. Although the two indexes typically track similarly over time, the consumer confidence index is more influenced by employment and labor market conditions, while the Michigan sentiment index has a greater emphasis on household finances and the impact of inflation. The Michigan index’s preliminary reading for June, released earlier this month, showed sentiment levels were at a seven-month low.

The complaint, filed with the state Board of Elections on Thursday afternoon, is one of more than a dozen filed with New York’s board of elections, some of which object to his campaign’s signature-gathering efforts. The group provided a time-stamped copy of the complaint to The New York Times. A Board of Elections spokeswoman, Kathleen McGrath, said a determination of residency would be “outside the ministerial scope” of the board’s review of petitions.

New York CNN —Two influential advisory firms have urged shareholders to vote against Elon Musk’s contentious $51 billion pay package and raised concerns about the CEO’s numerous side projects. On Friday, Institutional Shareholder Services called the package “excessive” and noted that shareholder concerns “have not been sufficiently mitigated” since the package was first approved in 2018. The move to Texas, where Musk also operates SpaceX, was proposed shortly after a Delaware Chancery Court judge sided with Tesla shareholders who challenged the legality of the 2018 pay package. Those shareholders also argued that the directors on Tesla’s board were not truly independent and were too close to Musk to protect shareholders’ interests. CNN —As we near the end of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Regina Kim Courtesy Regina KimBut too often, efforts to honor the contributions of Asian Americans, however well-intentioned, fall short because people fail to differentiate between Asian Americans and Asian communities outside the US. A recent study by the Asian American Foundation found that over half of Americans can’t name a single famous Asian American. This may be one reason why so many Americans can’t name any Asian Americans of note. The media needs to make a conscientious effort to seek out, identify and spotlight Asian Americans — and not just during AANHPI Heritage Month.
