CNN —After decades of false starts, researchers say they are finally making progress on a long-acting and reversible birth control option for men. The gel was developed by the National Institutes of Health and the nonprofit Population Council, and it takes much the same approach as birth control pills for women. “I would say our expectation was that it would be similar to hormonal birth control pills. The gel also seems to have other advantages over female birth control. To him, it doesn’t feel fair that his partner has to shoulder the burden of birth control.

For those outside the Westminster bubble, the announcement felt less like a starting pistol than a final gasp. But unlike Sunak, who with his wife Akshata Murty is worth an estimated £651 million ($828 million), most of us can’t afford it. The British economy never fully recovered from the 2008 recession and, consciously or not, most people still feel the sting every day. As Sam Knight recently noted in the New Yorker, the average British worker is estimated to be £14,000 ($17,800) worse off per year now than they would be if earnings had risen at pre-crisis rates. Her disastrous mini-budget wiped £30 billion off the UK economy that autumn, according to independent think tank Resolution Foundation, and sent interest rates rocketing.

In a joint statement posted to their respective Instagram Stories on Friday, Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen announced that they filed to end their marriage at some point last year. Over a picture of the pair dressed in white tennis gear, a note from the couple read, “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy,” the note concluded. Fisher and Cohen wed in 2010 after a long engagement, and share three children.

I have a friend who says her favorite way to read poetry is in quotation, as isolated lines in paragraphs of prose, such as in this column. You can’t have a personal, favorite part, the way I have a favorite part of “Prufrock” (which changes over time). Some of what’s in “Little Poems” does have a one-and-done feel. Short poems can be facile because they are short — they’re not wasting much of your time, so get over it. It’s unsatisfying in the way of all short unsatisfying poems; the end of any poem is a reward, but bad short poems satisfy too soon.

☆ Review: Problematic Attachments in ‘Aspects of Love’

For those who find regular love triangles too pedestrian, quadrangles and pentagons are also available. Unconventional arrangements are the order of the day in a dynamic revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Aspects of Love,” which opened on Thursday at the Lyric Theater in London. (It is a lot raunchier than Lloyd Webber’s most recent work, which invited the audience to “sing unto the Lord with the harp” during the coronation of King Charles III.) This “Aspects of Love” is exquisitely produced and superbly performed, but — like many a real-life libertine — it eventually buckles under the weight of its excesses. Alex, 18, invites Rose to stay with him at a villa owned by George (Michael Ball), his rich uncle, and the two fall in love.

Maryland state board of elections said it has seen no sign of suspicious incidents. In the Maryland attorney general race he campaigned on issues of gun rights, protection of the elderly and the "pre-born," border security, and opposing health mandates, per his website. There have been a wealth of independent fact checks, lawsuits, and election investigations, none of which have succeeded in uncovering evidence of widespread election fraud in the 2020 election.

CNN —New York City’s Broadway theaters plan to dim the lights on Saturday evening in tribute to the late actress Angela Lansbury, who died this week. The Committee of Theatre Owners will dim the lights for one minute at 7:45 p.m. in her honor, the Broadway League said in a statement. Not yet 20 years old, Lansbury garnered her first Oscar nomination for her movie debut in “Gaslight” in 1944. She also accepted an honorary Oscar in 2013 and amassed 11 Emmy nominations for her role as Jessica Fletcher in “Murder, She Wrote,” but never won. She also hosted or co-hosted the Tony Awards five times, more than any other individual.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Angela Lansbury," according to statement by Actors' Equity, the union representing live stage performers. "A star of stage, TV and movies, Lansbury was an Equity member for an astounding 65 years. Angela Lansbury stars as mystery writer and crime solver Jessica Fletcher on the CBS television crime drama series "Murder, She Wrote" in 1990. The TV academy nominated Lansbury for 12 Emmys for “Murder,” although she never took home the trophy. Edgar Lansbury was mayor of the London borough of Poplar, while George Lansbury served as Labour Party leader in 1932-34.
