In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired Sunday, FTC Chair Lina Khan said allowing Big Tech to go through hundreds of acquisitions in the past several decades was a mistake that hurt Americans. An FTC spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. "After some of those firms were bought up by one of the big guys, all of those data privacy policies changed overnight, and so Americans lost those privacy protections." A WhatsApp spokesperson told BI at the time that the company disagreed with the decision and that the penalties were "entirely disproportionate." An FTC spokesperson told CNN in 2023 that, under Khan, the agency has investigated or sued to stop more than three dozen merger proposals.

E. Jean Carroll's rape lawsuit against former President Donald Trump goes to trial next week. A federal judge sealed documents related to whether billionaire Reid Hoffman funded Carroll's suit. Alina Habba, an attorney representing Trump in the lawsuit, told Insider she would oppose the decision. On April 13, Habba asked Judge Kaplan (who is not related to Carroll's lawyer) again to delay the trial and reopen the discovery process in the case. Trump's attorneys haven't yet said whether the former president will attend the trial, and Judge Kaplan isn't forcing him to.

"Chicago is a great choice to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention," Biden said in a statement distributed by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Tuesday. The city has hosted several Democratic conventions, including the tumultuous and violent 1968 gathering during the Vietnam War. "There'll be some initial heartbreak, which I'm experiencing right now," said Dominick Perkins, a top Democratic strategist in Georgia. The convention, where delegates will formally select a final Democratic nominee to run in the November 2024 presidential election, will run from Aug. 19-22 next year, the DNC said.
