Wasserman said Cruise "got more involved and engaged" as planning for the closing ceremony stunt got underway. CNN —The striking writers and heads of the four big Hollywood studios have concluded a “marathon session” of negotiations, which lasted more than ten hours, without reaching a deal Thursday evening, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. It’s unclear when the studios and writers will meet again to continue negotiations. Discovery chief David Zaslav, Disney chief Bob Iger, Netflix co-chief Ted Sarandos, and NBCUniversal studio chairman Donna Langley — resumed negotiations on Wednesday with the Writers Guild of America. After the meeting, both sides issued a rare joint statement noting their discussions would continue the following day. Many productions had halted even before SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA on strike July 14.

What do “Barbie,” “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have in common? Besides being the summer’s big-budget movies, they were made in Britain, filmed in part at some of the country’s most esteemed studios. Big Hollywood productions are a critical part of Britain’s film and television industry. For years, they have brought in money, jobs and prestige, and helped make the sector a bright spot in Britain’s economy. Throughout the late summer months, when the industry would be at its busiest to take advantage of the long days, soundstages at Pinewood, Britain’s largest studios, were instead nearly empty.

As a longtime big Hollywood star and hitmaker, Ford had already achieved an immortality of a kind. It’s pretty clear from his newest venture, the overstuffed if not entirely charmless “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” that while Indy may not in fact be immortal, the brain trust overseeing this installment wishes he were. They haven’t simply brought the character back for another go, they have also given him a digital face-lift. That said, the altered Indy is cognitively dissonant; I kept wondering what they’d done to — or perhaps with — Ford. “Raiders” was created by Spielberg’s pal, George Lucas, who saw it as a homage to the serials that he’d loved as a kid.

The wordless preshow — a big Hollywood star silently spinning — was born of an impulse. An early readthrough in Chastain’s apartment planted the seed of the idea: She did the reading from her armchair, prompting a transfixed Lloyd to suggest she consider performing the play that way. “I wanted it to feel like I’ve been sitting there for years,” she said, “and haven’t fully woken up to the possibilities.”And why does she rotate? Lloyd said that concept was central to the show’s design. “It’s a very political play — that’s why it’s endured — but it’s also very psychological, about someone spiraling out of control,” he said.

TikTok creators are discussing forming a union to try and create more protection for their jobs. The National Labor Relations Act, for example, could not force a company like TikTok to negotiate a creator union. Sunderji said that even without a union, TikTokers coming together as a collective or an association could affect change. In 2019, a group of YouTubers formed FairTube, an unofficial YouTube "union," to ask for similar demands, like more transparency around its pay and penalties. "TikTok is a great place to be discovered, but a terrible place to be a professional creator," Valkai said.
