The clearest sign that there's a new boss at the White House is the deference being paid to coronavirus public health guidelines. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Joe Biden will sign 10 executive orders on Thursday to fight the coronavirus pandemic, including directing that disaster funds be used to help reopen schools and requiring that people wear masks on planes and buses, officials said. One order will require mask-wearing in airports and on certain modes of public transportation, including many trains, airplanes and intercity buses, officials said. Institutions including hospitals can apply after Trump declared the pandemic a national emergency in March. “This is a national emergency and we need to treat it accordingly,” Jeff Zients, coordinator of the Biden White House’s coronavirus response, said on a call with reporters. The administration may invoke the Defense Production Act for speedy vaccine distribution after an inventory of essential items needed to fight the pandemic.

Psaki said she expected to hold daily briefings at the White House on weekdays, and to make available health officials to explain efforts to get the COVID-19 pandemic under control. Under Trump, the White House banned news organizations it viewed as too critical from briefings and moved to off-camera “gaggles” instead of daily televised news briefings. REUTERS/Nick Oxford/File PhotoNEW YORK (Reuters) - Oil prices climbed with U.S. stock markets on Tuesday ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration as U.S. president on optimism that more government stimulus will eventually lift global economic growth. Wall Street’s main indexes rose after upbeat earnings from big U.S. banks and expected comments from U.S. Treasury Secretary nominee Janet Yellen for hefty fiscal spending ahead of Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday. “As we are approaching the beginning of the Biden administration era in the U.S., traders now have their hopes up for a rapid positive effect on markets coming from the promised ($1.9 trillion) stimulus package,” said Rystad Energy’s head of oil markets, Bjornar Tonhaugen. New York (CNN Business) At least six major news networks have assigned women to lead White House coverage of the Biden administration, raising the profile of female journalists in an institution long dominated by men. CNN named Kaitlan Collins its chief White House correspondent, replacing Jim Acosta, who will be the anchor and chief domestic correspondent for the network. ABC said Cecilia Vega will be its White House correspondent; The Washington Post named Ashley Parker as the newspaper's White House bureau chief; Nancy Cordes will be CBS News' chief White House correspondent; and Kristen Welker will be a co-chief White House correspondent for NBC with Peter Alexander. Journalist Yamiche Alcindor has covered the White House for the PBS NewsHour since 2018, and she will continue to do so during the Biden administration. "I've always thought women belonged in the front row — whether that's in the White House briefing room or any other," Collins said.

“He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding.” “These facts require immediate actions by President Trump,” he continued. A few Republicans defended him, but most others simply argued that a rush to impeach Mr. Trump without a hearing or an investigation raised constitutional questions. With Democrats controlling the House, Mr. Trump is expected to become the first American president to be impeached twice. Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington sent a letter to Mr. Trump on Sunday asking for an emergency declaration to obtain additional funding for inauguration security. On Tuesday, a federal inspector general questioned an order to deliver the estimates before Mr. Trump leaves office, after whistle-blowers warned that the rush would imperil their accuracy.

Jeff Ricchetti, the brother of Biden's White House counselor Steve Ricchetti, recently secured a lobbying contract with Amazon Web Services, the cloud platform of Amazon and a subsidiary of the tech giant, according to a new lobbying disclosure report. Ethics attorneys have previously told CNBC that Steve Ricchetti, who was also once a lobbyist over a decade ago, may have to recuse himself from matters that could impact his brother's clients. A person familiar with the brothers' relationship said they keep their professional lives entirely separate and that Jeff Ricchetti would never lobby Steve Ricchetti. The disclosure report shows that Jeff Ricchetti will be lobbying Amazon on issues pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic and the implementation of the CARES Act. Amazon and Jeff Ricchetti did not return CNBC's requests for comment.

President-elect Joe Biden is starting to lay out a blueprint for another pandemic aid package. The measures Biden indicated support for included more stimulus checks, public health funds, and enhanced unemployment insurance. But his ambitions will collide with Senate Republicans who may not be inclined to back more aid spending. In a speech on Tuesday, Biden started laying out his priorities for another rescue package after he is sworn in on January 20. But the drive to secure another aid package is all but guaranteed to collide with Senate Republicans, who may not be inclined to back a large round of emergency spending.

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s promise of a new economic era triggered a foreign-driven rally in the lira, but local investors have yet to be persuaded that policies they say have dragged on economic prospects for years will be reversed. Twice since mid-2018 the economy has sharply contracted while half the lira’s value has evaporated, setting both back compared to peers. That rally was partially reversed by Turks, who still face negligible deposit rates, buying $4 billion of gold and foreign exchange in two weeks.
