While pregnant, I read up on parenting styles and came across an ultramodern movement called "gentle parenting." Gentle parenting worked when my child was littleGentle parenting was relatively easy during early motherhood. Even when I followed the gentle parenting scripts laid out by gurus, everything felt like an ongoing tug of war. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that gentle parenting is way too gentle. In all honesty, drifting away from gentle parenting made me realize that parenting is more about trusting your gut than following scripts and best practices.

The retirement Catch-22
  + stars: | 2024-06-18 | by ( Ann C. Logue | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +10 min
The current Social Security retirement age is 67, but most Americans depart the workforce earlier than that. Instead of making it easier for Americans to save for retirement and work as long (or as short) as they want, Fink is setting up a catch-22: The economy needs aging Americans to work longer, but many companies simply don't want them. One of Button's studies looked at "bridge jobs , " part-time jobs in administration or retail that many people use to ease into retirement and cushion their finances. The same year, Scripps Medical Clinic in San Diego was ordered to pay $6.9 million for setting a mandatory retirement age for physicians of 70, regardless of the doctors' interest or abilities. And some older workers have heard all the corporate buzzwords and blather before, so they don't buy into management's sloganeering, rendering them "difficult."

Amazon Union Workers Join Forces With the Teamsters

After years of organizing Amazon workers and pressuring the company to bargain over wages and working conditions, two prominent unions are teaming up to challenge the online retailer. The partnership was made final in voting that ended on Monday after members of the Amazon Labor Union, the only union formally representing Amazon warehouse workers in the United States, voted overwhelmingly to affiliate with the 1.3-million-member International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The vote was overseen by the Amazon union. Leaders of both unions said the affiliation agreement would put them in a better position to challenge Amazon and would provide the A.L.U. will fight fearlessly to ensure Amazon workers secure the good jobs and safe working conditions they deserve in a union contract,” Sean O’Brien, the Teamsters president, said in a statement early Tuesday.

isn't the first question I ask a date but it's high on my list if I'm considering an actual relationship. But I have to ask about pensions to really find out where our future is heading as a couple. I ended it and truly hope he put that flower money toward a pension. So when I'm asking if a guy has a pension, what I'm really asking is: "Are you thinking about the future or just about enjoying today?" But, to me, I can enjoy the present more if it's not ruined by worrying about what will happen later if I don't have money.

Hughes also sets aside some money each year for a fund to help other family members. CNBC's Jim Cramer said investors shouldn't obsess over news that's already widespread across Wall Street, but instead pinpoint trends not yet accepted in the broader market zeitgeist. "If you want to be a better investor, don't tear your hair out fretting about the same things as everybody else," he said. "Instead, you should worry about the things other people don't seem to care about, because the real threat is the one that you don't see coming." It's often irrational and can make mistakes and ignore important pieces of information, Cramer said. However, the efficient market hypothesis provides a rough, but helpful, guideline for investing, he said.

I would definitely get another ice-cream cake from Cold Stone, but I'd try different flavors that might be less intense and overpowering. CNN —Bitter tensions are escalating between Joe Biden and Donald Trump over race and the future of the Supreme Court as they gear up for the most critical presidential debate clash in years. This is why Trump spent Saturday in Michigan, seeking to take advantage of signs of waning enthusiasm for Biden among Black voters. “From 1 year of age to 6 years of age, kids change a lot. Almost half reported their child leaving their bed and moving to the parent’s bed some or most nights, while 1 in 3 parents said their child often or occasionally insists that they stay in the room until the child falls asleep. The most important factor in getting kids to bed is consistency and sticking with a bedtime routine, Mott Poll co-director Clark said. Ninety percent of polled parents reported having an established and consistent bedtime routine. It’s common for young children to experience sleep issues, especially as preschool-age children begin to reduce or drop naptime, Hartstein said.

The producers and director were the same, but so much about this year’s telecast was a vast improvement on that of previous years. The pacing was swifter: The main broadcast ended on time and the pre-broadcast ended early. The transitions were smoother: Sets were changed live on camera, saving time and showing us how theater actually works. All this allowed the show to deliver better entertainment while leaving room for thoughtfulness and giddiness, and both together.
