In fact, it marked the 14th time that the company has placed its array on a human patient's brain. Four of Precision's arrays were carefully laid out on a table nearby. Using a pair of yellow tweezers called long bayonet forceps, Bederson began placing all four of Precision's electrode arrays onto the patient's brain. Real-time renderings of the patient's brain activity swept across Precision's monitors in the operating room.

March 2 (Reuters) - Neuralink, founded in 2016, has yet to receive FDA approval to test its brain chip in humans. It received U.S. approval for human testing in July 2021, five years after applying to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). NEUROPACENeuroPace (NPCE.O), founded in 1997, didn’t secure FDA approval for its brain implant to treat epilepsy until 2013. BLACKROCK NEUROTECHBlackrock Neurotech, established in 2008, has tested its brain implant in humans for almost two decades. The company had hoped to secure approval to commercialize the implant from the FDA by last year but is still working on it, according to the company.
Precision was co-founded by Benjamin Rapoport, who also co-founded Elon Musk's BCI company, Neuralink , and Michael Mager. But while Neuralink's BCI is designed to be implanted directly into the brain tissue, Precision relies on a surgical technique that is designed to be less invasive. A BCI is a system that deciphers brain signals and translates them into commands for external technologies, and several companies have successfully created devices with this capability. The device is called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface , and it's a brain implant that aims to help patients with paralysis operate digital devices using only neural signals. "I think that the brain is, in a lot of ways, the next frontier for modern medicine," he said.
