MANILA, June 15 (Reuters) - China's Yadea Group Holdings (1585.HK), one of the world's biggest electric two-wheeled vehicle makers, plans to invest about $1 billion in an e-motorcycle factory in the Philippines, the country's investment promotions agency chief said on Thursday. Yadea is one of a several electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers looking at the Southeast Asian nation for expansion of their manufacturing sites, Tereso Panga, director-general of government-run Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), told reporters. The Philippines is also touting its abundance of nickel, copper and cobalt, which are key raw materials for the EV industry. American and British electric vehicle firms are also scouting for battery and e-motorcycle manufacturing sites, Panga said. PEZA targets a 10% increase in investment approvals this year from 140.7 billion pesos ($2.51 billion) in 2022.

The vessel was carrying about 800,000 litres (211,338 gallons) of industrial fuel oil when it sank, according to the coast guard. Resorts in Oriental Mindoro, also known for world-class beaches and dive spots, have already been reeling from the impact of the oil spill, as tourists cancel reservations during what is supposed to be peak season. They also raised concerns about whether the tanker owner could file insurance claims despite questions about the ship's permit to operate.

Vulcanul Taal, unul dintre cei mai activi din Filipine, a fost zguduit miercuri de o serie de erupţii slabe şi de scurtă durată, au anunţat oamenii de ştiinţă, avertizând că explozii mult mai puternice ar putea avea loc, relatează dpa. Patru erupţii freatomagmatice, cauzate de interacţiunea dintre magmă şi apă, au avut loc miercuri la craterul principal al vulcanului Taal, a anunţat Institutul de Vulcanologie şi Seismologie din Filipine (PHIVOLCS). Starea de alertă în zona vulcanului Taal rămâne la nivelul 3, ceea ce înseamnă că "expulzarea magmei din craterul principal ar putea conduce la o erupţie explozivă", a precizat institutul. Cea mai recentă erupţie a vulcanului Taal a avut loc la data de 12 ianuarie 2020, când peste 376.000 de locuitori din aşezările învecinate au fost evacuaţi. Taal este o destinaţie turistică populară datorită lacului pitoresc din crater.

Numeroşi martori au povestit însă că în capitala Manila clădirile s-au cutremurat şi liturghiile de Crăciun au fost întrerupte, scrie agerpres. "Se înregistrează frecvent cutremure de pământ în regiune şi oamenii sunt mai mult sau mai puţin obişnuiţi", a adăugat el. Filipinele sunt situate pe "Cercul de Foc" al Pacificului, unde coliziunea plăcilor tectonice provoacă cutremure de pământ frecvente şi activitate vulcanică semnificativă, scrie realitatea.net.
