LIMA, Peru (AP) — Clad in a yellow vest, little Efruz balances himself on the front of the surfboard as waves foam around him and his companion as they skim over the Pacific waters off Peru. Efruz is a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier and he is a common sight these hot days of the Southern Hemisphere summer. “He loves the sea,” says his owner, Mauro Canella, a surfing instructor at the beach in San Bartolo, a district 50 kilometers (30 miles) from downtown Lima. And they are not the only dog-human duo surfing the waves off San Baartolo. As happens to all surfers, dog and owner occasionally are tumbled into the water when they fail to negotiate a wave.

NEW YORK (AP) — Adrián Beltré, Todd Helton and Joe Mauer were elected to baseball's Hall of Fame on Tuesday while Billy Wagner and Gary Sheffield fell short. Beltré was picked on 366 of 385 ballots from the Baseball Writers' Association of America in his first ballot appearance for 95.1%. Helton received 307 votes for 79.7% in his sixth appearance, 18 more than the needed 289 for 75% after falling 11 votes short last year. Mauer got 293 votes for 76.1% and like Beltré was elected on his first try. Mauer was a six-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner and the 2009 AL MVP during 15 seasons with Minnesota.

Malta va oferi 200 de euro turiștilor care vor sta mai mult de trei zile pe insulăCu scopul de ași revigora industria turistică, Malta intenționează să ofere vizitatorilor străini o sumă de până la 200 de euro fiecaruia, dacă stau cel puțin trei zile pe insulă Mediteraneană în această vară. Ministrul turismului a anunțat că majoritatea restricțiilor urmează a fi ridicate până la 1 iunie. Bartolo a declarat că turiștii care rezervă cazare la un hotel de cinci stele, vor primi 100 de euro de la Autoritatea pentru Turism din Malta, iar suma totală urmează să o compenseze administrația hotelului, anunță Reuters. Într-un aranjament similar cei care optează pentru un hotel de patru stele vor primi în total 150 de euro, iar cei care vor rezerva un hotel de trei stele vor primi 100 de euro. Amintim că și premierul italian a anunțat că de la începutul verii vor deschide granițele pentru turiștii vaccinați împotriva COVID-19.
