The name “Barib Yariel” does not appear on an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) list of fallen soldiers, although online posts are claiming without evidence that an Israeli sniper by that name was killed by Hamas.
A Nov. 8 post (archived) on social media said: “One of Israel’s best snipers Barib Yariel, was just killed by a Hamas sniper” and “Yariel had a 100% success rate until the one time his enemy had a weapon.
The name Barib Yariel in English or Hebrew is not on the list at the time of writing this fact check.
There are also no credible reports to corroborate the claim that an Israeli sniper with that name has been killed since the most recent conflict between Hamas and Israel began on Oct. 7.
There is no evidence that an Israeli sniper by the name Barib Yariel was killed by a Hamas sniper.
