I spent the holidays away from home for the first time by going on a 22-day cruise over Christmas. I woke up on Christmas to views of Antarctica but missed my traditions and the rest of my family. download the app Email address Sign up By clicking “Sign Up”, you accept our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy . But this year, I spent Christmas and New Year's Eve on a 22-day Holland America cruise around South America and Antarctica. I traveled with my grandma and cousin, and our cruise began in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and ended in Santiago, Chile.

Rewilding Fundation Chile/Handout via REUTERSSANTIAGO, March 6 (Reuters) - Chile launched a program on Monday to protect the huemul, an endangered southern deer, by creating a biological corridor that includes an area recently donated by the family of the late philanthropist and founder of the North Face, Douglas Tompkins. The Rewilding Chile Foundation, Tompkins' legacy, along with Chile's Ministry of Agriculture, said that the "Huemul National Corridor" will be made up of approximately 16 connected, state-protected areas alongside other private conservation initiatives. Last week, Kristine Tompkins, co-founder and president of Rewilding Chile, met with President Gabriel Boric to donate 93,492 hectares (231,024 acres) for the creation of a new national park in the Magallanes region. The huemul is one of two species of native deer found only in the Patagonian forests of Argentina and Chile. Despite being originally found in areas in central Chile, the huemul can now be seen mainly in the southernmost regions of Aysen and Magallanes.

SANTIAGO, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Chile's vintners are increasingly thinking about how to adapt to shifts in climate and drier weather that has seen the Andean country gripped by drought for over a decade. "It's something that worries all of us vineyards," said Magdalena Villasante from Vina Undurraga, which won the event's top award for its Syrah Carignan Grenache blend. Chile is the world's fourth-largest wine exporter, but dry weather has pushed vineyards to shift. Land for wine growing dropped some 4% in the five years until 2020, with the central Santiago Metropolitan Region, the country's third-largest wine producing region, seeing a decline of nearly 14%, official data show. "We'll probably see more wines from Aysen and Magallanes (in Chile's deep south) in the future what with climate change," Rojas told Reuters.
