The Stellantis sign is seen outside the FCA Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, on Jan. 19, 2021. DETROIT — Stellantis is laying off roughly 400 salaried employees in the U.S. in its engineering, technology and software units to cut costs as the automaker faces what it calls challenging market conditions. Stellantis on Friday said the layoffs would affect about 2% of employees in those units "after rigorous organizational reviews." Stellantis employed 11,800 U.S. salaried employees as of the end of last year. A source familiar with the actions confirmed it at about 400 workers, a number first reported Friday by The Wall Street Journal.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Automaker Stellantis on Wednesday announced a recall of more than 32,000 of its hybrid Jeep Wrangler SUVs because they pose a potential fire risk. As part of what the company described as a routine review of customer information, Stellantis determined that eight of the hybrid Wranglers had caught fire while they were turned off and parked. The recall covers 2021-2024 models of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs. All other Wrangler models have been deemed safe by Stellantis, which maintains its U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Stellantis plans to contact the owners of the SUVs that need to be fixed.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSAN FRANCISCO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Electric-vehicle maker Rivian Automotive (RIVN.O) on Monday reported third-quarter deliveries above analysts' estimates, as it ramped up production to meet a sustained demand for its pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles (SUVs). Rivian, which makes R1T pickup trucks and R1S SUVs, delivered 15,564 vehicles in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with Visible Alpha estimates of 14,740 vehicles and up 23% from the second quarter. It produced 16,304 vehicles at its facility in Normal, Illinois, up from 13,992 in the second quarter. That means Rivian has to make just more than 12,300 vehicles in the current quarter to hit its full-year target.

The announcement happened at an event at the Guanabara Palace, the Rio state government's headquarters, and the funds are part of an investment cycle that ends in 2025. Of the total, 330 million reais have been invested in developing a modified version of its CMP car platform for producing models from several of the group's brands, compatible with combustion, hybrid and electric engines. New York CNN —The United Auto Workers union is expanding its strike against GM and Stellantis but said that progress in negotiations with Ford means it won’t expand the number of Ford workers on the picket lines. “At noon Eastern today, all parts distributions centers at General Motors and Stellantis will be on strike,” he said. Still the announcement of progress at Ford raised hopes that the strike, at least at there, could be brought to a relatively quick end. But the UAW’s expanded strike is now targeting the parts distribution centers for GM and Stellantis. As of 10:30 am ET, Stellantis (STLA) is up 0.98%; Ford (F) is up 3.57%; and GM (GM) is up 0.7%.

Members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union hold a practice picket in front of Stellantis headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, on September 20, 2023. Regardless of the outcome, the United Auto Workers strike threatens to cause already high car prices to escalate. However, if the strike expands, or, alternatively, if the striking autoworkers' demands are met for a 40% pay raise along with other benefits, that could put pressure on automakers, dealers and, ultimately, car shoppers. Either way, consumers will pay more down the road, he added. "Inevitably yes, no matter what."

Emily Elconin | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesUnited Auto Workers President Shawn Fain on Friday invited President Joe Biden to join the picket line as striking workers expanded their walkout to dozens more General Motors and Stellantis facilities. "We still have serious issues to work through, but we do want to recognize that Ford is showing that they're serious about reaching a deal," the UAW president said. Biden sided with the striking workers last Friday when the UAW launched its initial targeted strikes against three facilities in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. Record profits at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis "have not been shared fairly, in my view, with the workers," Biden said during a brief address last Friday. Ford could face strike in Canada, adding to U.S. labor pressure

Ford Motor could face a strike in Canada if no agreement is reached by 11:59 p.m. Monday with the union representing about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, just days after workers at one of its U.S. plants went on strike. On Friday, the United Auto Workers union launched a targeted strike against Ford, General Motors and Chrysler-parent Stellantis , targeting one assembly plant at each company. Canadian union Unifor, whose contract with Ford expires at 11:59 p.m. Monday, said "while we remain at the table the likelihood of a strike increases with each passing hour." Ford has two engine plants in Canada that build V-8 motors for F-series and Super Duty pickups assembled in the United States. Ford on Friday furloughed 600 workers who are not on strike at the Michigan Bronco plant because of the impact of the work stoppage.

Stellantis said the facility would "continue to be our North American headquarters and North America technical center." It's not guaranteed the facilities would close under a labor deal; however, Stellantis is required to include potential closures or sales of any location where a UAW member works, a company source said. Stellantis North American Chief Operating Officer Mark Stewart, who is overseeing the UAW talks, said the company needs to "modernize" the Mopar facilities. Stewart, without disclosing details of the plan, described the company's proposal for Belvidere as a "very compelling offer." Ford's annual filing showed about 57,000 of its hourly employees in the United States were represented by the UAW, while the UAW represents about 43,000 U.S. hourly workers at Stellantis. Stellantis last week offered its U.S. hourly workers a 14.5% wage hike over four years, but no lump sum payments. Fain also is aiming to get agreements that would allow the UAW to represent hourly workers at joint-venture EV battery plants opened or planned by the Detroit Three. In fiscal 2019, GM's fourth-quarter profit took a $3.6 billion hit from a 40-day UAW strike that shut down its profitable U.S. operations. Contract talks between the UAW and the Detroit automakers have gone on till the strike deadline and beyond in past years.

Contract talks between the UAW and the Detroit automakers have gone to the strike deadline and beyond in years past. Stellantis said on Friday it offered U.S. hourly workers a 14.5% wage hike over four years but no lump sum payments. The UAW said the GM and Ford offers would change the formula for calculating profit-sharing, and if it had been in effect last year GM workers would have received 29% less and Ford workers 21%. A UAW strike that shuts the Detroit Three manufacturers could cost carmakers, suppliers and workers over $5 billion, the Michigan-based Anderson Economic Group estimated. GM recorded a $3.6 billion pre-tax loss in 2019 after UAW members went on strike for six weeks, the longest walkout against a Detroit automaker since 1970.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 8 (Reuters) - Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI) said Friday it offered U.S. hourly workers a 14.5% wage hike over four years in its offer to the United Auto Workers union ahead of a Sept. 14 contract expiration. The offer is much less than the 46% wage hike being sought by the union. General Motors (GM.N) said Thursday it had offered workers a 10% wage hike and two additional 3% annual lump-sum payments over four years. The Stellantis offer - which did not specify how the 14.5% wage increase would be distributed over four years - is similar to GM and Ford's offers. Stellantis is offering $10,500 in inflation protection payments over the four years, while GM is offering $11,000 and Ford $12,000.

French-Italian automaker Stellantis and South Korean battery maker Samsung SDI on Monday said they plan to open a second joint-venture plant in the U.S. to build electric vehicle batteries, with a target to start production in 2027. The companies said the transaction still needs to be finalized, and where the plant will be located is under review. Also, how much will be invested at the site and how many people it will employ will be announced later. Thursday night, I got the sense that this was not something Smith was just doing for show: This is a band that noticeably, palpably cares about its fans. And onstage, Smith emitted a sincere sense of gratitude that I found transfixing. Yes, Smith still styles himself like a kinder, gentler version of the Joker. Here were six guys just playing their instruments, occasionally striking exaggerated rock poses, but mostly just letting this majestic music speak for itself. Today’s playlist is an appreciation for the Cure’s reign as a top-notch live act.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File PhotoOTTAWA, May 12 (Reuters) - Automaker Stellantis (STLAM.MI) and South Korea's LG Energy Solution (373220.KS) (LGES) are implementing "contingency plans" related to a more-than C$5 billion ($3.7 billion) battery plant investment in Canada because the federal government has not delivered on its promises, a Stellantis spokesperson said on Friday. "As of today, the Canadian Government has not delivered on what was agreed to, therefore Stellantis and LG Energy Solution will immediately begin implementing their contingency plans," Stellantis said in a brief emailed statement, without elaborating. LGES and Stellantis announced the investment last year to establish a large-scale, domestic, electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Canada. Canada's deal with Volkswagen for a battery gigafactory, announced this year, is the biggest single investment ever in the country's electric-vehicle supply chain.
Stellantis on Wednesday said it has hired the chief financial officer from global grocery company Ahold Delhaize to replace CFO Richard Palmer, who plans to leave the company at the end of June. Palmer will be succeeded by Natalie Knight, who has served as CFO at the Netherlands-based food retailer since early 2020. The automaker did not release details regarding why Palmer, who served as CFO through two major global mergers, is leaving the company. The resulting automaker then merged with French company PSA Groupe in 2021, forming Stellantis. Stellantis said Knight will be based at the company's U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, "with extensive travel to Europe and the other regions."

Stellantis in a statement praised the court's decision to turn away what it described as "baseless claims" by GM. FCA paid a $30 million fine while the UAW agreed to independent oversight to resolve the U.S. Justice Department investigation.
ZURICH, March 15 (Reuters) - ABB (ABBN.S) is expanding its main US robot factory as its customers there in the automotive, packaging and machinery industries confront a tight labour market as they bring production back home. The United States is the third largest in the global robotics market, which is worth around $50 billion per year according to estimates by ABB and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). Rapid growth is expected as US companies bring production closer to home to avoid logistic log jams which have gummed up supply chains since the global pandemic. A survey by ABB last year showed 70% of North American businesses suffered supply chain disruptions in the last year. "The potential for growth in the industrial robots market is huge," Atiya said.
