Superstar center Joel Embiid has signed a three-year, approximately $192.9 million extension with the team that runs through the 2028-29 season, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported Friday morning. The seven-time All-Star is set to make approximately $51.4 million in the 2024-25 season and $55.2 million in 2025-26, according to Spotrac. The Sixers later officially announced that Embiid signed a “multi-year” extension. While he returned late in the regular season, Embiid had semi-regular injury scares and also dealt with Bell’s palsy during the playoffs. The longtime sports reporter will take a job at St. Bonaventure, his alma mater, and become the general manager of its men’s basketball program, the university said. The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays will resume a June 26 game that was suspended for rain in what will be the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. Back in June, Jansen, then playing for the Blue Jays, was at the plate with one out and one on in the top of the second when the game was suspended. “I don’t even know how this works,” Jansen said when asked about the suspended game after he’d been traded to Boston. The Blue Jays will have some funky developments in the game, too. Though the suspended game will end on Aug. 26, it will be officially recorded as having taken place on June 26 in the record books.

Ledecky earned a silver medal as part of the U.S. women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay Thursday night at the Paris Games, giving her 13 Olympic medals throughout her illustrious career. On Wednesday, Ledecky took gold in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle, her eighth Olympic gold medal and 12th overall, which tied her with Americans Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin. She is the heavy favorite to win her fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal in that event Saturday night. With one more gold, Ledecky will tie Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for the most gold medals for any female Olympian in history.

CNN —LeBron James has reportedly signed a two-year, $104 million maximum contract to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The deal reportedly includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, giving James, 39, control over his future after next season. James, a four-time NBA MVP, also tops the all-time playoff scoring leaderboard with 8,162 points. Last season, he also became the first player to be selected for 20 All-Star appearances, surpassing the record he had jointly held with Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Lakers were then eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets, losing the series 4-1.
