Azerbaidjanul şi Armenia au semnat sub egida Rusiei un acord pentru încetarea ostilităţilor în conflictul din Nagorno-Karabah care consacră victoriile militare azere după şase săptămâni de lupte sângeroase. Nagorno-Karabah, teritoriu azer populat majoritar de armeni, şi-a autoproclamat independenţa faţă de Azerbaidjan, intrând în anii 1990 într-un conflict armat care s-a soldat cu circa 30.000 de morţi. La sfârşitul lui septembrie au reizbucnit confruntările între separatiştii armeni şi armata azeră, cele mai sângeroase din ultimii 30 de ani.

Forţe de pace ruse au anunţat miercuri că au preluat controlul asupra coridorului Lachin, care leagă Arenia de enclava separatistă azeră Nagorno Karabah, în urma unui acord de încetare a ostilităţilor în aceste teritoriu încheiat de Azerbaidjan şi Armenia, relatează AFP și news.ro. ”Unităţile avansate din contingentul forţelor armate ale Federaţiei ruse au preluat controlul asupra coridorului Lachin”, a anunţat într-un comunicat generalul rus Serghei Rudski. Aproximativ 400 dintre cei 1.960 de militari ruşi care urmează să fie staţionaţi în zilele următoare să menţină pacea în Nagorno Karabah au sosit în Armenia, a precizat generalul. Însă, până la urmă, Baku urmează să preia controlul asupra celor şapte districte şi unei mici părţi a enclavei separatiste azere Nagorno Karabah. Republica autoproclamată – micşorată şi slăbită – supravieţuieşte însă, sub protecţia militarilor ruşi, care urmează să fie desfăşuraţi pe front.
