Cathie Wood's ARK Invest has taken a stake in Elon Musk's startup xAI as she deepens her big bet on artificial intelligence. ARK Venture Fund has invested in xAI as of Sunday, the St. Petersburg, Florida-based asset manager said in an email to clients Tuesday evening. The xAI startup is also not the only Musk-led company Wood's venture fund bets on. The venture fund, launched in September 2022, targets smaller investors who can access the venture capital market through it with as little as $500. The xAI startup is reportedly planning to build a supercomputer to power the next version of its AI chatbot Grok.

Disappointing investors Tesla's inability to meet estimates and boost demand for its models has spurrred the newfound skepticism. The comments from Wood came one day after her firm purchased nearly $40 million worth of Tesla shares. A lack of investor understanding of the value of these alternative businesses and their future contribution to Tesla profits is plaguing Tesla shares, according to Corestone Capital's Will McDonough. TSLA 1Y mountain Tesla shares over the last year "Valuing Tesla as a car company is akin to valuing Amazon as a book sale company," the investor said. "There are definitely concerns in the marketplace around demand" for Tesla vehicles, said Robert W. Baird senior research analyst Ben Kallo.

Dec 4 (Reuters) - Pando Asset AG, a digital asset management firm based in Switzerland, last week became the latest issuer to submit an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) tied to spot bitcoin prices. Pando becomes the 13th company vying for a share of what the cryptocurrency world believes could become a multi-billion dollar product, SEC filings showed. Others range from asset management giants like BlackRock and Fidelity to more specialized ETF providers like ARK Investments. Pando is a latecomer to the U.S. spot bitcoin race, but already has three other spot crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Its ETF proposal included Bank of New York Mellon as the administrator of the Pando Asset Spot Bitcoin Trust.

Since 2021, the SEC has rejected multiple applications to issue spot bitcoin ETFs, arguing that the cryptocurrency market is vulnerable to manipulation. In August, a federal court ruled that the SEC wrongly rejected Grayscale Investments' application to convert its Bitcoin Trust into a spot bitcoin ETF. SEC chair Gary Gensler said last month that the SEC is evaluating as many as 10 spot bitcoin ETF proposals. The average fee levied on U.S. ETFs currently hovers around 0.54%, but Ark's proposed fee of 0.80% is significantly lower than the 2% that Grayscale currently charges investors on its spot bitcoin trust. If the SEC does approve some or all of the pending spot bitcoin ETF applications in early January, industry participants and analysts expect a fierce battle for market share to follow.

Falling prices of commodities like copper and lumber “negatively impacted” Home Depot’s third-quarter earnings, CEO Ted Decker told investors on the company’s earnings call earlier this week. In particular, they're noticing consumers pushing off bigger-ticket purchases like appliances, which have become cheaper compared to a year ago. But the problem with deflation is that when people begin to expect lower prices in the future, they have little incentive to make purchases right now. In China, however, prices across all goods and services were 0.2% lower in October compared to the same month last year. He also warned that US-based Walmarts could enter “a deflationary environment.”Besides eggs, other cheaper goods include airfares, gasoline, appliances and smartphones.

BlackRock registered the iShares Ethereum Trust as a Delaware statutory trust on Thursday. Earlier this year, BlackRock registered a bitcoin trust in the same manner and a week later filed an application with the SEC to launch a spot bitcoin ETF. BlackRock declined to comment on the trust's creation or on any plans for an ETF filing. To date, roughly a dozen ETF providers have filed to create spot bitcoin ETFs, or convert existing products into spot ETFs, helping fuel the recent rally in the cryptocurrency. Several other ETF providers that have applied for spot bitcoin ETFs also have sought SEC approval for spot ether ETFs, including Ark Investment Management, Invesco and VanEck.

REUTERS/Carlos Barria/File PhotoAug 10 (Reuters) - Air taxi maker Archer Aviation (ACHR.N) has reached an agreement with Boeing (BA.N) and its Wisk air taxi unit to settle litigation and collaborate on autonomous technology, the companies said on Thursday. In a joint statement with Boeing and Wisk, Archer said it "has agreed to make Wisk its exclusive provider of autonomy technology for future variants of Archer’s aircraft." Boeing said it is making an investment in Archer "that will support the integration of Wisk’s autonomous technology in future variants of Archer’s aircraft." Archer counter sued Wisk in 2021 "for its false and malicious extra-judicial smear campaign" and Boeing in 2022. Archer will issue warrants to Wisk for up to 13.2 million shares as part of the settlement and autonomy agreement.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyAug 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed a decision on whether to approve Cathie Wood-led Ark Investment Management's (ARK) spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), a filing by the regulator showed on Friday. The SEC is seeking public comment on the Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF application, and has pushed back the decision date by several weeks to potentially months. In June, BlackRock (BLK.N), the world's biggest asset manager, also filed for a bitcoin ETF, a move that many viewed as a gamechanger for the industry. In 2021, Wood's ARK and crypto investment firm 21Shares US LLC had first teamed up to file an application for a spot bitcoin ETF with the regulator.

HONG KONG/TAIPEI, July 21 (Reuters) - Investors are putting aside geopolitical tensions to pile in to Taiwan stocks, with foreign inflows the biggest in years, thanks to soaring artificial intelligence and chipmaking stocks. Rather, investors say it's all the more sturdy as the bogged-down conflict deters Chinese action and risks can be managed by keeping positions liquid with one eye on a possibly quick exit. "A potential escalation of events in the Taiwan Strait down the line is less relevant for these investors," he said. "So that makes Taiwan’s AI supply chain very attractive for foreign investors, and we believe their fund inflows will continue to be strong throughout the year." Investors say Taiwan's market is uniquely positioned to benefit because it is exposed to the sector's growth from applications to components, where demand is rebounding.

In late 2021 Matthew Tuttle launched a fund that bets against the ARK Innovation ETF. A month ago he started a new ETF that shorts stocks picked by Jim Cramer of "Mad Money." Tuttle, the CEO and investment chief of Tuttle Capital Management, is starting to get a lot of requests for "anti"-ETFs. When shorting big name investors makes senseIt's easy to assume Tuttle is motivated by personal or professional dislike for Wood and Cramer. While he's considered creating an anti-fintwit ETF, Tuttle is still positive on Fintwit itself.
But it also gave the fine wine and crypto industry a big boost as panicking investors rushed out of the financial sector and into alternative assets. Bittersweet banking: SVB lent over $4 billion to winery clients since 1994, with over 400 wine industry clients (including wineries, vineyards and vendors) working with the bank’s premium wine division, according to the bank’s website. Recent SEC filings, meanwhile, indicated SVB had about $1.2 billion in outstanding loans to high-end wine clients when the bank collapsed. Circle, the company behind popular stablecoin USDC, said it had about $3.3 billion of its $40 billion in reserves at SVB. The collapse of Signature Bank, a major crypto lender, also had serious implications for the industry.
Insider spoke to four tech fund managers about their ideas and approaches to the theme. This year, Open AI's ChatGPT has attracted even more hype — and much more money — as Microsoft invested $10 billion in Open AI. "Fads and themes are really common in technology," mutual fund manager Matthew Moberg told Insider. "A lot of the leading AI companies are using Cloudflare today, and we think that will increase." Michael Loukas is the CEO of TrueMark Investments, which launched its Tech, AI, and Deep Learning ETF three years ago.
"I think Google is fundamentally impaired by this transition to AI," Brett Winton, the chief futurist at Cathie Wood's Ark Investment Management, told Melissa Lee on CNBC's ' Fast Money ' recently. "Their entire business model is built around taking people and delivering them to the next byte, and these AI systems actually deliver answers to the end users" he said. 'Fragile' model Moving forward, Winton doesn't see head-to-head competition between search engines necessarily leading to a winning AI strategy. "I think Google's model is fragile, and it doesn't necessarily accrue to Microsoft's benefit," he said. "It's much clearer that there will be a lot of money spent on AI investment," Winton said, adding that the key for either tech giant to be well-positioned is by providing AI capabilities in their software."
Cathie Wood's Ark Invest has bought up two little-known stocks several trading days in a row. The well-known investor bought shares of metal 3D printing company Velo3D for the past eight trading days and a clinical-stage oncology treatment company Repare Therapeutics for the past seven sessions. Velo3D is up 65% in the past month, while Repare Therapeutics declined 6.39% in the same period. Ark's flagship ETF, Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK), just logged its best performing month, rising 28% in January. The Nasdaq Composite is up 12% in the past month amid a broader rally in equities.
Ark Invest said bitcoin could hit nearly $1.5 million by 2030, a 6,326% increase from its current price. The famed money manager predicted bitcoin will scale unto a "multi-trillion dollar market," per a recent report. The bullish estimates come amid a severe and lengthy crypto market rut. Bitcoin is down 65% from its all-time high in November 2021, with the industry's total market value off over 64% from its peak. Since the start of the year, Ark's flagship exchange-traded fund, ARKK, bought 108,548 Coinbase shares, worth $6.3 million at its current price.
“We had the exact same story and the exact same company — VineBrook Homes,” Allen told NBC News. VineBrook Homes Trust Inc., which owns over 3,000 single-family homes in the Cincinnati area, is one of the most aggressive landlords in bringing eviction proceedings against its residents, they say. A big institutional owner of over 24,000 single-family homes in mostly lower-income areas, VineBrook Homes is a real estate investment trust (REIT) with properties in 18 states, including Alabama, Indiana, Missouri and Mississippi. “I left in Dec. 2021,” Jenkins told NBC News. Vinebrook Homes owns over 3,000 single-family homes in the Cincinnati area, including many in suburbs like North College Hill.
Cathie Wood's flagship ARK Innovation ETF staged a dramatic relief rally Thursday on the back of an easing inflation reading . ARKK's biggest holding Zoom Video popped about 12%, while Tesla jumped nearly 7%. The innovation investor has been calling deflation for some time, betting the high prices were caused by temporary Covid-related supply issue. The innovation investor just doubled down on a slew of her favorite stocks this week, unfazed by the turmoil in many of these names. Wood snapped up shares of six companies Wednesday, including adding to some of her largest holdings Zoom Video and Tesla.
Cathie Wood, Founder, CEO, and CIO of ARK Invest, speaks at the 2022 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, May 2, 2022. The Federal Reserve likely is making a mistake in its hardline stance against inflation Ark Investment Management's Cathie Wood said Monday in an open letter to the central bank. Instead of looking at employment and price indexes from previous months, Wood said the Fed should be taking lessons from commodity prices that indicate the biggest economic risk going forward is deflation, not inflation. Specifically, the consumer price and personal consumption expenditures price indexes both showed inflation running high. Headline CPI rose 0.1% in August and was up 8.3% year over year, while headline PCE accelerated 0.3% and 6.2% respectively.
Chicago Federal Reserve President Charles Evans said the central bank is holding fast in its commitment to bring down inflation even if it means people losing their jobs. "Price stability sets the stage for stronger growth in the future." "But price stability makes the future better." Evans said he sees some signs that inflation is letting up as supply chain pressures ease. Evans is a non-voter on the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee and has said he is leaving his position early in 2023.
