A self-proclaimed hardware hacker modded his AirPods Max to have a USB-C charging port. It's rumored that Apple's next generation of the headphones will ditch the Lightning port for USB-C. AdvertisementOne engineer is giving AirPods Max owners one less reason to upgrade to the new model that Apple is expected to eventually announce — if they're the DIY type. But Pillonel wasn't willing to wait, dubbing his modified headphones the "World's First USB-C AirPods Max" in his video description. While it then added the port to many of its devices, including iPads and accessories, the MacBook has used a USB-C port for years.

Apple said on Tuesday that it supports nationwide right-to-repair regulation that would make iPhone parts and tools available to customers, the latest sign of the company's shift toward supporting independent repair. Apple said it sees "real value" in a national law at a White House event on Tuesday. In a short talk, Apple service VP Brian Naumann said that Apple makes parts, tools, and manuals available to independent repair stores in the U.S., highlighting the company's current policy under its self-service repair program. The recent endorsement of the California law and the pending national bill is a shift from Apple, which previously opposed right-to-repair laws. But Apple has relaxed its position in recent years, introducing a program to rent tools and buy parts in 2021.

Apple is now backing a California right-to-repair bill, a major shift in the company's attitude toward the movement and a potential boon for the environment, according to a letter obtained by CNBC. California Senate Bill 244 would require manufacturers such as Apple to allow customers to fix their broken or damaged devices. I'm grateful for their engagement on this issue and for leading among their peers when it comes to supporting access to repair," Eggman told CNBC. We create our products to last and, if they ever need to be repaired, Apple customers have a growing range of safe, high-quality repair options," Apple said in a statement to CNBC. Apple left the door open to supporting further expansion of right-to-repair in the letter to Eggman.

My HomePod is now a very expensive doorstop

So, in November 2020, I dropped $299 on an Apple HomePod speaker to replace the records and turntable. I chose the HomePod because we've been an Apple family. The HomePod sounded great, working equally well across lots of different types of music — jazz, rock, hip-hop, '80s dance hits, ambient — you name it. It would often choke on songs that weren't available on Apple Music. I interrupted what I recognized as her AppleCare upsell pitch, thinking maybe I could get something out of the old HomePod before I sent it to the landfill.

If your iPhone battery life seems like it's getting worse, that's because it is. A battery replacement is free if you have AppleCare+, which costs between $3.99 and $13.49 per month depending on the iPhone model you have. That means I can't get Apple's free battery replacement through the AppleCare+ plan that I pay for. But it explains why my battery life seems like it's gotten worse. It's a quick and relatively affordable way to improve your iPhone battery life, particularly if you don't otherwise need a new phone.

David A. Grogan | CNBCEmerging markets and ChinaSome analysts are eager to see Apple give data points on India sales. India became one of Apple's top five iPhone markets during the quarter, according to analyst estimates. If Apple stockpiled parts and has enough to make what it needs to produce, it could help margins, analysts say. Wall Street likes to see Apple's services business grow regularly and smoothly, because the margins on services are so much higher than when Apple sells hardware. Apple suggested a 5% year-over-year increase in services, and FactSet's estimates more than $20.7 billion in revenue.

Despite headline misses, Apple gave us a lot to like under the hood in its fiscal 2023 first quarter. The worst appears to be behind us — and as a result, we reiterate our 1 rating and continue to believe that Apple stock is something to own for the long-term, not trade quarter to quarter. In its December quarter, Apple returned $19 billion via the repurchase of 133 million shares and another $3.8 billion in dividends. Moreover, nearly two-thirds of Apple Watch buyers in the quarter were new to the product. Within Services, we also saw all-time revenue records for cloud services, payment services and music and December quarter records for the App Store and AppleCare.

CNN —Apple is raising the price of battery replacements for all out-of-warranty iPhone models prior to the current iPhone 14 lineup, the company confirmed on its website. Starting March 1, Apple (AAPL) will charge $89 for battery replacements for iPhone X through iPhone 13 models, a $20 increase from the current price of a new battery. Battery replacements for other models, such as the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, will jump from $49 to $69. Apple first lowered the price of iPhone battery replacements from $79 to $29 in 2018, after it was discovered that the company deliberately slowed down the performance of older iPhones to prevent sudden battery shutdowns. In raising prices now, Apple may be responding to an uptick in the cost of products amid rising inflation and supply chain issues.
IFixit, which assesses the reparability of consumer electronics, said on Monday Apple has made major changes to the iPhone 14 base model. In the iPhone 14, the back glass is held in place by just two screws one connector, making it easy to remove. Apple did not mention the internal redesign when it announced the iPhone 14 earlier this month. It also creates opportunities for local repair shops.”The costlier iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max still have the older style of glued-in glass back. In 2019, Apple started selling tools, parts and manuals to independent repair shops.
