CNN —More than 200 people with diabetes were injured when their insulin pumps shut down unexpectedly due to a problem with a connected mobile app, the US Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. Version 2.7 of the t:connect Apple iOS app – used with the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ – has been recalled due to a software issue that causes the app to crash and relaunch. This cycle drains the pump battery, causing it to shut down sooner than expected and suspend insulin delivery. On March 26, Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. sent affected customers a device correction letter requesting that users update the mobile app to version 2.7.1 or later. Customers in the United States can contact the Tandem Diabetes Care Technical Support Team at (877) 801-6901 for more information.

(L-R) Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee at the Dirksen Senate Office Building on January 31, 2024 in Washington, DC. Tillis and other lawmakers accused the tech executives of failing to protect children from sexual exploitation on their respective social media platforms. Growing appetite for regulationTo be sure, both Republican and Democratic senators were united in their conviction that social media firms are failing the American public and directly harming young people. Still, it takes time for bills to get passed, and all of these social media firms are still getting slammed for child-safety related issues, which could keep the topic fresh in the minds of politicians. A strong advertising market may be starting to feel the pressure from geopolitical risks erupting aboard and a higher-for-longer interest rate environment. But comments from some major technology players last week led to increasing questions that some investors have struggled to shake off. META 5D mountain Meta shares in recent trading sessions That concern added to declines in other ad-focused technology names, with Alphabet dropping nearly 10%. Instead, Tengler favors companies such as Amazon and Microsoft , which offer some, but less concentrated, exposure to advertising. Technology investor Paul Meeks is also shying away from the most popular advertising players — and big technology as a whole — until he sees a better setup for interest rates.

A new Apple iOS 17 feature gives you the option to leave a video message if your FaceTime goes unanswered. As long as you have an iPhone from 2018 or later, and you update your phone's software, you can record a video message. Keep in mind this only works if your recipient also has iOS 17. It can be a fun way to leave a video for someone if they miss your FaceTime call, and it works just like you might expect to leave a voicemail. It's easy to do, so I'll show you how.

Whenever there's mention of a new CEO opening in tech, former Yahoo CEO and former Google vice president Marissa Mayer's name always seems to come up. However, Mayer raised some eyebrows in 2020 when instead of turning up at another Silicon Valley giant, she launched startup Sunshine to focus on the seemingly "smaller" problem of contacts. Mayer and co-founder Enrique Muñoz Torres started working on Sunshine in 2018 to automate the mundane task of organizing contact information. The company also has Sunshine Birthdays and Sunshine Circles that delve into organizing birthdays and sharing information with groups. "The idea is that Sunshine Contacts basically becomes the brain that operates your contacts," Mayer told CNBC back in 2020 when the app was launched.

As part of the company's two rounds of layoffs, equaling roughly 21,000 job cuts, Meta gutted wide swaths of its customer service operation, leaving influencers and businesses with nobody to contact about their accounts. CNBC spoke with influencers, small businesses and Meta account managers as well as a half-dozen former contractors and former Meta employees about the deterioration in customer service at the company since the job cuts began in November. Holliday said it appears that the only people who get customer service are those who represent a company that's spending heavily on advertising. However, some influencers say Facebook has had such poor customer service that there's no reason to pay for it. After all the problems she's experienced, Karlova questions whether Meta will be able to provide better customer service.
Now, it seems, TikTok wants to clear up some facts that lawmakers may have gotten wrong. TikTok wants to clear up "Myth vs Fact." After the TikTok CEO's 5-hour hearing at Congress last Thursday, the company wants to reassure advertisers that it'll be fine. The document states: "TikTok does not permit any government to influence or change its recommendation model." Advertisers make up a large chunk of TikTok's user base, which the company says is now at 150 million monthly active users in the US.

Twitter will relaunch a revamped version of its subscription service Twitter Blue on Monday at a higher price for Apple users, the company said in a tweet on Saturday. Twitter did not explain why Apple users were being charged more than others on the web but there have been media reports that the company was looking for ways to offset fees charged in the App Store. Twitter had initially launched the Twitter Blue early in November before pausing it as fake accounts mushroomed. He had then accused Apple of threatening to block Twitter from its app store and also said that the iPhone maker had stopped advertising on the social media platform. However, after a subsequent meeting with Apple chief executive Tim Cook, he tweeted that the misunderstanding about Twitter being removed from Apple’s app store was resolved.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoNov 5 (Reuters) - Twitter on Saturday updated its app in Apple's App Store to begin charging $8 for sought-after blue check verification marks, in Elon Musk’s first major revision of the social media platform. The change comes a week after Musk took over the social media company in a $44 billion deal. It was not immediately clear how or if Twitter planned to verify the identity of the user beyond charging a fee. Twitter Blue will roll out in India in "hopefully less than a month," Musk tweeted in reply to a question from a follower. As of Saturday, the update to Twitter Blue remained at the old price of $4.99.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoNov 5 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc on Saturday launched a subscription service for its social media platform for $8 a month that includes the blue checkmark "verified" badge, offering an updated version on Apple’s App Store. In an update to Apple iOS devices, Twitter said those who "sign up now" can receive the sought-after blue checkmark next to their user names, "just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow." A blue check mark next to a person's user name means Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to the person or company claiming it. Twitter's update said the new service with verification will be available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. However, according to a tweet from Twitter's early stage products executive Esther Crawford on Saturday, the new Twitter Blue service is available but has not yet gone live.
But none of that explains why political campaigns have been turning away from Facebook. Political ads have always been a small part of Facebook's overall business. The pandemic accelerated that trend since so many consumers turned to streaming platforms while stuck at home, and content for cord-cutters proliferated. Ad tracking firm AdImpact projected that of the $9.7 billion spent on political ads this cycle, $1.4 billion would go to connected TVs. Apple's crackdown has indeed diminished Facebook's position in political advertising.

Mark Zuckerberg's leadership is putting Meta on track to fail, a Harvard management expert says — but it's not a lost cause. That's the suggestion for Zuckerberg from Bill George, a senior fellow at Harvard Business School and former CEO of medical technology company Medtronic. Instead, Zuckerberg has become a leader who prioritizes profits, doesn't accept advice and blames others, according to George. In February, CNBC's Jim Cramer said he has "total faith in Mark Zuckerberg" when it comes to Meta's bet on the metaverse. Why a sabbatical may be unlikely for ZuckerbergBut the odds of Zuckerberg actually following George's advice may be unlikely.
