Asked if he plans to tell Chinese President Xi Jinping that he is committed to defending Taiwan from Chinese aggression, President Biden said, ‘I’m going to have that conversation with him.’President Biden said he plans to discuss how the U.S. and China can avoid conflict when he meets with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his coming Asia trip, but won’t make concessions on critical issues.
“What I want to do with him when we talk is lay out what each of our red lines are, understand what he believes to be in the critical national interests of China, what I know to be the critical interests of the United States, and to determine whether or not they conflict with one another,” Mr. Biden told reporters in Washington.
“And if they do, how to resolve it and how to work it out.”
