COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio has banned gender-affirming care for minors and restricted transgender women’s and girls’ participation on sports teams, a move that has families of transgender children scrambling over how best to care for them. The new law bans gender-affirming surgeries and hormone therapies, and restricts mental health care for transgender individuals under 18. The measure also bans transgender girls and women from girls and women’s sports teams at both the K-12 and collegiate level. One advocate, while singing that Jesus loves transgender children, was escorted out of the Senate chamber. At least 23 states have now enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and many of those states face lawsuits.

If you work in San Francisco, super commuting is the difference between living in a suburb or next to a vineyard. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe tech industry, which has embraced hybrid work more than other employers, is especially friendly to super commuters. Still, he notes, not all big cities will fare equally well in the age of super commuting. In its pre-pandemic analysis, the Census Bureau found that, on average, super commuters earned higher salaries than other commuters. For Callihan, who always dreamed of living in the big city, super commuting was a means to an end.

For the unlucky few who experience shark attacks, the ordeal is undoubtedly terrifying. Yet every summer, stories about shark attacks top homepages. Unlike shark attacks on humans, which are mainly attributed to curiosity, we know exactly what we’re doing. Throughout, the great white is characterized as a dogged predator obsessed with human flesh. I’d never suggest that the victims of shark attacks had it coming, or that cinemagoers should feel an iota of shame.

But the friend kept calling, and eventually she relented, flew to Portland and drove to a hillside in Amity. In 2019, she began offering an annual seminar for wine professionals that she named Beauty School. In her pursuit of maximally beautiful wines, Harrison has devised possibly the world’s most laborious way of making them. This blending period is when Harrison’s wines find their identities. “Though they can be punishingly difficult,” Ready told me, “those blending sessions are about trusting yourself, believing in the process and letting go of the desire to second guess.”Punishingly difficult seems to be Harrison’s thing.

Today the roles have reversed, with Democrats refusing to negotiate, preferring to smear the 'MAGA Republican' opposition as 'extreme.' Images: Zuma Press/AFP via Getty Images Composite: Mark KellyEverything old is new again, and blaming the rich for America’s woes is no exception. That era has been damned with a pejorative label: the Gilded Age. That thinking has re-emerged in the Democratic Party today, though this time it has its sights set on our economy’s tech giants. The wealth created by industrialization, modern finance and communication has reduced poverty, elevated material well-being and promoted general prosperity.
Editor’s note: Kent Sepkowitz is a physician and infectious disease expert at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. CNN —At long last, the Covid-19 pandemic has entered its whimper phase. Last week, the World Health Organization decided to end the Covid-19 global health emergency. The US public health emergency is scheduled to end on Thursday, and beginning the following day, vaccination against Covid-19 will no longer be required for non-US travelers entering the States. Infectious diseases don’t ever really go away; they just change a little, then change some more till one day, they return bigger and fiercer than ever.
