Washington — The Biden administration added 37 Chinese entities to a trade restriction list on Thursday, including some for allegedly supporting the suspected spy balloon that flew over the United States last year, heightening tensions between Beijing and Washington. Media have said state-owned China Electronics Technology Group is a top military equipment supplier. China Electronics Technology Group could not immediately be reached for comment. The trade restriction list, known as the entity list, has been used aggressively by the United States to stem the flow of technology to China amid concerns Beijing could use it to bolster its military capabilities. Being added to the list makes it harder for US suppliers to ship to the targeted entities.

☆ U.K. invests $273 million in AI supercomputer as it seeks to compete with U.S., China

The U.K. government said Wednesday that it will invest £225 million, or $273 million, into an artificial intelligence supercomputer, highlighting the country's ambition to lead in the technology as it races to catch up to the U.S. and China. The University of Bristol will build the supercomputer, called Isambard-AI after the 19th century British engineer Isambard Brunel. The announcement coincided with the first day of the U.K.'s AI safety summit, which is being held in Bletchley Park. The computer will pack 5,448 GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips, powerful AI chips made by U.S. semiconductor giant Nvidia , which specializes in high-performance computing applications. The U.K. government hopes the two combined supercomputers will achieve breakthroughs in fusion energy, health care and climate modeling.

Lyons will be the first queer housewife to join the franchise’s New York City series as one of its seven new cast members. Their romantic relationship was revealed by the New York Post after someone spotted Lyons and Crangi at a New York restaurant amid Lyons’ divorce. The New York Post was asking if she would like to confirm or deny that she was “seeing a woman,” they said.
