CNN —Brazil and Orlando Pride star Marta will retire from international soccer this year, she told CNN Brasil in an interview which will air on Sunday, April 28. The 38-year-old is Brazil’s all-time record goalscorer, male or female, with 115 goals and has appeared in six World Cup tournaments. If selected for the Brazilian squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Marta could make her sixth appearance at the Games. There is no longer Marta in the national team as an athlete from 2025 onwards,” Marta told CNN Brasil. Three times Marta has come agonizingly close to glory with Brazil, losing the 2007 Women’s World Cup final to Germany and twice suffering defeat in the Olympic gold medal match.

CNN —The Chilean football federation (ANFP) has been criticized for its handling of a star player’s 100th appearance for the women’s national team. On Tuesday, Endler, the team’s captain and goalkeeper, made history by becoming the first player to reach 100 caps for the Chile women’s national team in a 2-1 victory over New Zealand. One more for you guys,” Chile national team player Daniela Pardo replied to the graphic on Instagram. Endler captained Chile at its first ever Women's World Cup in 2019. That she has been able to achieve so much is remarkable, coming from a country whose federation has sometimes overlooked its women’s national team.

CNN —World Cup tournaments tend to be defined by an emerging star and, this year, it’s Colombia’s 18-year-old sensation Linda Caicedo who is shining brightest. It was in that game, early in the second half, that she produced one of the moments of the World Cup so far. “I wanted to shoot and thank God the ball went in,” Caicedo told FIFA after the game. “I’m still developing,” Caicedo told FIFA+ before the World Cup began. Now, sparing an unlikely swing of goal difference, Colombia will qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup.

ADELAIDE, July 23 (Reuters) - Brazil must not take anything for granted at the Women's World Cup and must enjoy playing on the biggest stage if they harbour any hopes of reaching the final, coach Pia Sundhage said on Sunday. Brazil are South American heavyweights with eight Copa America Femenina titles but that has not yet translated to success in the World Cup where their best finish was runners-up in 2007. "The most important thing is we don't take anything for granted and please enjoy the game ... Sundhage said Marta is '100%' after working with the high performance coach but would not confirm if the 37-year-old veteran, who is playing in her last World Cup, would start. Panama are making their World Cup debut and when Sundhage was asked if she had watched them play, she said: "We know everything about Panama!
