Morgan Stanley raised its price target on Nvidia to $500 and called the stock its "top pick." Analysts said demand has picked up since the chip maker's blockbuster earnings report last month. Morgan Stanley also named Nvidia its new "top pick," taking that moniker away from the previous holder, rival chip stock AMD. Morgan Stanley said there has been a rapid shift in investment away from the traditional server infrastructure and toward AI infrastructure, calling Nvidia the "cleanest story in AI hardware." While the numbers may not be sustainable in the long term, Morgan Stanley still sees "higher capital intensity" through the next several years.

Digging deeper into the gains, Nvidia turns up as a big winner. Meta Platforms shares have doubled. If the Fed signals a pause Wednesday and rates fall, the market could see tech stocks rip higher. To be sure, other factors besides for AI have contributed to this year's rally in technology stocks. Jason Tauber, a portfolio manager at Neuberger Berman said AI stocks should start to experience bifurcation from here on out.
AI developers, prominent AI ethicists and even Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates have spent the past week defending their work. "I don't think asking one particular group to pause solves the challenges," Gates told Reuters on Monday. A pause would be difficult to enforce across a global industry, Gates added — though he agreed that the industry needs more research to "identify the tricky areas." That's what makes the debate interesting, experts say: The open letter may cite some legitimate concerns, but its proposed solution seems impossible to achieve. It noted in its blog post that future AI systems could become "much more powerful" over the next decade, and building guardrails now could "help reduce risks" down the road.
"It's a new day in search," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Tuesday during an AI event held at the company's headquarters, saying that the "race starts today." So far, Microsoft is making significant headway within AI and rising in popularity in the tech world. Alphabet, he added, "got beaten to market by Microsoft" despite its investments in the space. Alphabet Microsoft may be taking the lead on AI in the near term, but investors shouldn't sleep on Alphabet just yet. "We believe GOOGL has the AI tech and scale to maintain/grow its leading user base," said Morgan Stanley's Brian Nowak in a Thursday note.

Feb 7 (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) and rival Microsoft (MSFT.O) are once again locked in a race to rule the internet zeitgeist after the Google owner launched "Bard" in answer to AI chatbot sensation ChatGPT. The artificial intelligence service could change how consumers search for information or create content on command and free up time for white-collar workers. The services that Google's Bard and ChatGPT would offer are similar. Microsoft and Google plan to embed AI tools to bolster their search services Bing and Google Search, which account for a big chunk of revenue. Bard draws on information from the internet, while ChatGPT has access to data until 2021.
