The three major averages posted gains for the fourth week in row, lifted by strong quarterly earnings results for most of the Big Tech companies and a strong jobs report. A weaker ADP Employment report on Wednesday provided no read-through to the monster January jobs report Friday. Here's what we're keeping an eye on in the coming week: 1. Earnings: It's another big earnings week head for the portfolio, with 8 more of our companies reporting. Consistency is what we appreciate most from nat gas giant Linde , so we're hoping for another quarter of solid earnings growth Tuesday.

REUTERS/Michael Fiala/file photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 17 (Reuters) - Allegiant Travel (ALGT.O) said on Thursday it has ratified a two-year extension of a contract agreement with Teamsters union representing some of its workers. Allegiant Air carrier parent said the agreement provides for significant increases in compensation rates and extends the contract by two years till Oct. 31, 2028 for 683 workers. The employee group includes line and heavy maintenance technicians as well as stores employees and some administrative maintenance staff, the company said. Earlier this week, Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) reached a tentative labor agreement with the union that represents about 17,120 transport workers who handle ramp, operations, provisioning and cargo.

All three major averages advanced for the week, powered by strong mega-cap earnings and favorable inflation data. Looking to next week, earnings season enters its second half with the last of our mega-caps — Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) — set to report on Thursday. We'll get a better read on the employment picture on Wednesday with the ADP report and then, more importantly, on Friday's nonfarm payrolls report for July. Thursday after the close brings us to the main events of the week: Earnings from Apple and Amazon. ☆ Goldman's small-cap picks for falling inflation

Many small-cap stocks took a beating in 2022, as sharply rising costs hurt profits, but the situation could be reversing, Goldman said, creating an opportunity for investors if they know where to look. "With inflation expected to moderate, companies that can at a minimum stabilize their gross margins this year and meaningfully expand them beyond that should be well positioned in our view," said analyst Deep Mehta in a research note. Goldman screened small-cap stocks that are expected to show gross margin expansion through 2024. The following names showed the biggest gains between the two time periods, making them Goldman's picks as inflation decelerates. The Russell 2000 has also begun to rebound in recent weeks, moving higher on the hopes that the ultra-high levels of inflation seen in 2022 are finally breaking.
