Read previewOn Friday evening, Elon Musk reposted a deepfake video of Vice President Kamala Harris on X — a move that may violate his own platform's policy on synthetic and manipulated media, The New York Times reported. In the video, the edited voice-over says, "I was selected because I am the ultimate diversity hire. And that may just run afoul of X's policy on synthetic and manipulated media, which states: "You may not share synthetic, manipulated, or out-of-context media that may deceive or confuse people and lead to harm ("misleading media")." This is a violation of @X’s policies on synthetic media & misleading identities. A video on social media appeared to show the president hitting out at his critics and cursing them.

A short clip purporting to show a UFO hovering over a neighborhood originated from the account of a video creator, and is not genuine footage of a UFO. The video appears to show footage filmed from a sidewalk, with electric cables sparking overhead while an apparent flying saucer hovering over a column of smoke can be seen in the distance (here). While most comments indicated that users knew the clip was digitally created, others were misled into thinking the video was authentic. Let them have it..times up!”The earliest iteration of the video, however, was uploaded in February 2022 (here), (here) by a video creator, Alex Howard, whose account description includes “director and digital artist” and “building a dark, cinematic universe” (archive.is/EDtvC). The clip stems from a video creator’s social media accounts.
