CNN —David DePape, the man convicted in federal court for violently attacking House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, has been convicted of five charges in state court. The verdict comes as DePape already faces a 30-year sentence from his conviction last year in connection with the October 2022 attack. In court Friday, DePape showed no visible reaction as the verdict was read, and his lawyer later said they intend to appeal the case. DePape was convicted in federal court last November for assault on the immediate family member of a federal official and attempted kidnapping of a federal official in connection with the attack. “I’m telling him, ‘I have other targets, but if you stop me, I’ll go through you,’” DePape said, recounting a conversation with Paul Pelosi.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 27 (Reuters) - San Francisco authorities released video footage on Friday of former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, being struck by an intruder's hammer as police rushed into their home to stop the attack. San Francisco Deputy Public Defender Adam Lipson, who represents DePape, called the release of the evidence a "terrible mistake." The assailant had been seeking Nancy Pelosi and wanted to wait for her to return to the house, Paul Pelosi said. After the attack, Pelosi underwent emergency surgery for his wounds, which included a fractured skull. While many politicians condemned the attack in San Francisco, some Republicans made light of the incident, which also spawned a number of unfounded, online conspiracy theories.
The suspect who attacked Paul Pelosi was consumed by conspiracy theories, The NYT reported. Frank Ciccarelli, a carpenter, worked with the suspect, David DePape, for about six years. Frank Ciccarelli, a carpenter in Berkeley, California, told the Times he worked with the suspect, David DePape, for about six years. Ciccarelli said DePape began to spend more time online over the last few years, engulfed in right-wing conspiracy theories, as per the news outlet. "He was completely caught up in the fantasy, in the MAGA fantasy," the carpenter told The Times.
The man accused of brutally attacking the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., appeared in state court Tuesday to face attempted murder and other charges. California prosecutors also charged David DePape, 42, with assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, residential burglary, false imprisonment and threatening a public official in connection with Friday's attack on Paul Pelosi. DePape specifically targeted the Pelosis' home to confront the House speaker, not realizing she was in Washington, D.C., at the time, Jenkins alleged. Based on DePape's alleged statements and comments made in the house during the encounter with Paul Pelosi, the attack appeared to be "politically motivated," Jenkins said. Investigators allege DePape attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer after police arrived at the home early Friday morning.
David DePape, the man accused of breaking into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's residence and violently assaulting her husband with a hammer, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including attempted murder, according to NBC news. The 42-year-old suspect was booked in San Francisco county jail on numerous state charges, including attempted murder, burglary, assault and false imprisonment, after being discharged from the hospital. The attorney also gave his best wishes to Paul Pelosi, who is recovering after undergoing surgery to repair a skull fracture. Paul Pelosi managed to call 9-1-1, and when officers arrived, DePape struck him with the hammer, authorities said. DePape had arrived at the San Francisco home toting zip ties, tape, rope and at least one hammer, according to the affidavit.
