Many mental health advocates worry whether the Georgia community will receive the mental health support it is likely to need in the wake of the shooting. Andy Miller for KFF Health NewsSo health providers worry that in the coming days, months, and years the community will struggle to find help for their mental health needs. Georgia ranks nearly last among states in access to mental health care resources, according to Mental Health America, a nonprofit that advocates for increased mental health spending. The lack of mental health care remained a top concern in the region during a follow-up assessment in 2022. But immediately following the shooting, mental health providers across the region still had to cobble together free resources for area residents.

Attorneys representing X claimed the Media Matters report was "intentionally deceptive" and financially damaged the company. Media Matters and X didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. One host previously told BI he was charging $400. Travel experts say hosts have a lot to answer for in Airbnb's downfall. "Airbnb essentially allows anyone to sign up to be a host, which will always prove to be problematic," she told BI. Duncan Greenfield-Turk, the chief travel designer at Global Travel Moments, told BI that hosts had "without a doubt" played a big part in Airbnb's unpopularity. Hotels are making the most of the backlash by offering more personalized services and often matching or undercutting Airbnb prices.

Reuters —Three fires blazed on a Greek-flagged oil tanker in the Red Sea, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said on Friday, one day after rescuers evacuated its crew in the wake of an assault by Yemeni Houthi militants. The Iran-aligned Houthis, who control Yemen’s most populous regions, said on Thursday that they had attacked the Sounion oil tanker as part of their 10-month campaign against commercial shipping to support Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The Houthis first damaged the tanker on Wednesday with repeated attacks that caused a fire and a loss of engine power. The damaged tanker, carrying 150,000 metric tons of crude oil, poses an environmental hazard, the EU’s Red Sea naval mission Aspides said. The Sounion was the third vessel operated by Athens-based Delta Tankers to come under Houthi attack this month.

Nesmith said she had flown into Greece on Sunday, the day the wildfire initially broke out in the village of Varnavas, about 20 miles north of Athens. As the danger spread, Greece implored fellow European Union members to help respond to the blaze. “We stand with Greece as it battles devastating fires,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement on X on Monday. While wildfires are common during the summertime in Greece, climate scientists have warned that unusually hot and dry weather connected to climate change can make fires more likely to ignite and spread. Greek authorities on Tuesday issued an evacuation alert for the seaside town of Nea Makri in eastern Attica, as firefighters continued to battle a massive blaze burning through the Athens suburbs. Hundreds of European firefighters, backed by fire engines and waterbombing aircraft, have sought to contain the country's worst wildfire this year. The fire began on Sunday roughly 20 miles from Athens, according to Sky News. Strong winds and scorching temperatures have created tinderbox conditions in the southern European country. Authorities in Greece, which experienced Europe's largest wildfire ever recorded last year, have ordered the evacuation of several towns in the north-eastern suburbs of the capital in recent days.

One person dead. Homes and buildings charred. Huge tracts of forestland destroyed, the burned area leaving a thick scar covering nearly 25,000 acres northeast of Athens, the Greek capital, according to European satellite images. Although the Greek authorities said on Tuesday that the threat to Athens posed by major wildfires that tore through its northern suburbs a day earlier had diminished, the damage caused has been “massive,” Vasilios Vathrakogiannis, the country’s fire service spokesman, said in a telephone interview. And the true extent of the damage cannot be accurately assessed until the fires are completely doused, he said.

Athens, Greece CNN —Where just hours ago there were thick rows of trees, now stumps protrude and smoke still rises from scorched soil. “At some point, the fire went faster than the cars,” Vasilis Xypolitas, mayor of Kifisia municipality on the outskirts of Athens, told CNN. Her car, like scores of others lining the roads that climb out of Athens, was burned. More than 700 firefighters, nearly 200 vehicles and 35 water-bombing aircraft were deployed to battle the blaze, Greek public broadcaster ERT reported. Once the winds and the worst of the blaze abated, residents in Chalandri returned to inspect the damage.

Firefighters in Greece were working early Monday to contain a major and fast-spreading wildfire that broke out near Athens a day earlier, which has damaged buildings and produced flames more than 80 feet tall, the authorities said. The fire started on Sunday afternoon in Varnava, a town less than 30 miles north of Athens by road, and spread rapidly within minutes because of high winds, Greece’s national fire service said. The fire then spread on Sunday evening, in some cases between residential buildings, Col. Vassilios Vathrakogiannis, a spokesman for the fire service, said in a news release. He said the fire also threatened Lake Marathon, a reservoir serving Athens. The fire service warned of strong winds.

CNN —A fast-spreading wildfire continued to rage close to the Greek capital of Athens on Monday, prompting authorities to ask residents to evacuate their homes. Fire authorities warned Monday that the wildfire had “developed rapidly” and was heading towards Penteli, around 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) northeast of Athens. Greek authorities have battled dozens of blazes already this summer after enduring its hottest June and July on record. Kikilias warned over the weekend that “extremely high and dangerous weather conditions” would continue through Thursday. The only certainty about Summer Olympics weather is that there’s really no certainty at all. In other words, holding the Summer Games in these cities would be a huge health risk for the athletes. The Games held in 1996 in Atlanta simply wouldn’t be possible in 2050. They may not againSome of the cities that have already hosted the Summer Games will be way beyond safe temperatures by 2050. Beijing, which hosted in 2008, would be much too hot and humid, with heat stress forecast to soar past 90 degrees.

For some, the pressure and expectations might forge diamonds – and Paris 2024 has no shortage of this type of athlete. Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna is poised to carry on the legacy of his father, Virgilijus, who holds an Olympic record in the same discipline. His 69.89-meter throw in Athens 2004 guaranteed the then-32-year-old a second Olympic gold medal, having also won in Sydney 2000. It was a record the elder Alekna was chasing his entire career and got close only once: a personal record of 73.88 meters thrown just before the Sydney Games. “If you don’t change anything, you’ll be just like your father: without the world record,” Virgilijus said to Lithuanian news outlet Lrytas when asked what he said to his son a month prior to his record-breaking effort.

Stretches for becoming more flexible

Becoming more flexible as an older adult is still doable, but collagen loss means it’s also harder to achieve. Stretch yourself looseThe stretches experts recommend for flexibility can depend on personal needs, but they do have some suggestions for full-body flexibility. Stretches for hip flexors, including the cat-cow yoga pose and compound stretches that target multiple muscle groups, are especially helpful for people with desk jobs, experts said. Stretches should be held for 15 to 30 seconds, and you can sprinkle in stretches throughout your day by taking a break from work every 45 minutes, or try 20-minute sessions, experts said. Other pros of pliabilityAs you’re working your way to a more flexible body, you may find stretching produces even more payoffs than just the flexibility itself.
