The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) banned Thiago Braz, a Brazilian pole vaulter who won gold at the 2016 Olympics, for 16 months for doping, the organization announced Tuesday. Braz is expected to miss the 2024 Paris Games. The 30-year-old set the men’s Olympic record in pole vault at 6.03 meters when he won gold at the 2016 games in his home country. The AIU said a majority of a panel reviewing the case determined Braz was not at significant fault or negligence. His positive test occurred in July at the Bauhaus Galen Diamond League meeting in Stockholm ahead of the world championships.

CNN —Brazilian Olympic gold medalist pole vaulter Thiago Braz is set to miss the upcoming Games in Paris after he was handed a 16-month doping suspension. According to the AIU, Braz argued that he did not knowingly consume ostarine but ingested it through a supplement he had been given by a sports nutritionist to improve his health. Braz, a two-time Olympic medalist, had been hopeful of competing in Paris this year. “After two days of hearings in London, the athlete’s defense arguments prevailed, proving that Thiago Braz was actually a victim of supplement contamination (an unintentional violation with no significant fault),” said Braz’s lawyer Marcelo Franklin. Braz won Olympic gold in Rio after a tense battle against France’s Renaud Lavillenie, who was the pole vault world record holder at the time.

The Enhanced Games is the brainchild of businessman Aron D’Souza. Aron D'Souza is the founder of the Enhanced Games. But that isn’t the only potential legal jeopardy the Enhanced Games faces, according to American lawyer Jim Walden, who represents Russian whistleblower Grigory Rodchenkov. “If you look at the Enhanced Games website, it’s almost as though they’re advertising their disregard of the law,” Walden told CNN Sport. If it goes ahead as planned in December 2024, D’Souza insists that the Enhanced Games will unlock the potential of humanity.

BUDAPEST, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Reigning champion Tobi Amusan of Nigeria won her qualifying heat in the women's 100-metres hurdles on Tuesday to secure a spot in the semi-finals amid a cloud of controversy. The 26-year-old, who set the world record in the semi-finals of last year's world championships, had a provisional anti-doping suspension lifted on Thursday, but could still face an appeal that could potentially reinstate the ban. Amusan, whose world record is 12.12, was slow out of the blocks before cruising to a time of 12.48 seconds, third fastest on the night. "The team USA, we have the hardest team to make in the hurdles and that is what makes our event so exciting. Amusan's presence at the global showpiece was a surprise, with her suspension lifted just two days before the meet began.

July 19 (Reuters) - Tobi Amusan, the 100m hurdles world record holder, said on Wednesday she has been charged with missing three doping tests but has denied taking performance enhancing substances and expects to be cleared to compete at the world championships. Under World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, the applicable sanction for three 'whereabouts' failures is two years' ineligibility, subject to a reduction to a minimum of one year depending on an athlete's degree of fault. She became the first Nigerian world champion and world record holder in an athletics event with her 2022 victory in Eugene, Ore., where she set the world record of 12.12 seconds. Amusan was part of Nigeria's 4x100 relay squad that won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games but were then stripped of their medal after anchor runner Grace Nwokocha failed a doping test. The World Athletics Championships run from Aug. 19-27 in Budapest.

May 17 (Reuters) - Kenyan athlete and 10-km road race world record holder Rhonex Kipruto has been provisionally suspended for an anti-doping violation, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Wednesday. Kipruto, who also won a 10,000m bronze medal in the 2019 world championships, broke the 10-km road race world record in 2020. The AIU said on Twitter that Kipruto had been suspended "for the use of a Prohibited Substance/Method (ABP)". ABP refers to the Athlete Biological Passport, which shows discrepancies that can reveal the effects of doping. GENEVA, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Former Russian hammer thrower Sergei Litvinov has admitted using banned substances and benefiting from his country's cover-up system as athletics authorities handed him a two-year suspension and voided his past results. Russia's athletics federation was suspended in 2015 over a report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that found evidence of mass doping in the sport. Litvinov, the son of Soviet hammer thrower Sergei Litvinov, the 1988 Olympic champion, said his throws improved by nearly two metres after taking the substances. Litvinov said he handed over the details of his case to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which oversees integrity issues in international athletics, including doping. The Russian athletics federation issued a statement on the suspension but did not address Litvinov's allegation that it had pressured him to use banned substances.
Fellow Kenyan Betty Wilson Lempus has been charged with the presence of triamcinolone acetonide. As of the end of November, 55 Kenyan athletes were banned and eight provisionally suspended, according to the AIU. Her ban has been backdated to June 27 this year, when the AIU provisionally suspended her, and her results have been disqualified back to and including Oct. 11, 2021. Furosemide was found in Rionoripo's urine in an out-of-competition test on May 30 in Kenya, the AIU said. Athletics Kenya, the ADAK, and Kenya's minister for sports Ababu Namwamba did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"We will not allow unethical individuals to ruin Kenya's reputation through doping," Kenya's minister for sports, Ababu Namwamba, said on Twitter on Friday. This week Kenya's government wrote to World Athletics to try and ward off a potential ban. A spokesperson for World Athletics confirmed to Reuters receipt of the letter. Fifty-five Kenyan athletes are currently banned and eight provisionally suspended, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), an independent body formed by World Athletics to combat doping in the sport. Kenya is a 'Category A' country under World Athletics' Anti-Doping Rules, which means its athletes must undergo at least three no-notice, out-of-competition urine and blood tests ahead of major events.
