The South by Southwest festival, which dozens of artists withdrew from this year to protest its sponsorship by the U.S. Army and defense contractors in light of their ties to Israel, announced this week that it would no longer accept their support. “After careful consideration, we are revising our sponsorship model,” the festival, which is held each year in Austin, Texas, said in a brief statement on its website. “As a result, the U.S. Army, and companies who engage in weapons manufacturing, will not be sponsors of SXSW 2025.”No further details were offered, and SXSW declined to elaborate on the statement. “We look forward to a chance to work together in the future,” said Lt. Col. Jamie Dobson, the public affairs officer at the Army Futures Command in Austin, which works on technology and innovation. And we were very proud of the partnership we had this past year.”

At least nobody can accuse Asia’s soccer authorities of failing to sweat the small stuff. can still find the time to dictate precisely which water bottles, with which labels, fans should be allowed to carry into stadiums. That kind of attention to detail should reassure you that soccer’s future — from Beirut to Beijing, and Ulaanbaatar to Hobart — is in safe hands. Unfortunately, that is not quite the picture that emerges from a report, commissioned by soccer’s global players’ union, FIFPro, assessing the benefits and shortcomings of Asia’s most prestigious club competition, the Asian Champions League. Instead, the report documents a tournament that acts as an almost perfect microcosm of soccer’s general direction across the globe.

The group of men punctured their cans — the governor’s actually appeared to be spiked iced tea, rather than beer — and drained them in unison. Mr. Moore flattened his empty, barehanded, and high-fived the others. And a video capturing the moment ricocheted, approvingly, across the online sports world. It didn’t help the Ravens, who lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s A.F.C. Representative Jared Goldman, Democrat of Maine, shotgunned a Bud Light at a homecoming football game at the University of Maine in October.

In the Welsh language, the virtually untranslatable word “hiraeth” (pronounced here-ayeth) describes a blend of nostalgia and longing for a time that can never be recreated. For Wrexham, a working-class town in northern Wales, it was a feeling that came to define a postindustrial malaise that descended in the 1980s as the last remaining coal mines shuttered their rickety gates and, later, the furnaces at the nearby steelworks ran cold. Only the beloved soccer club, Wrexham A.F.C., remained: the oldest team in Wales, a perennial also-ran but still an indomitable source of local pride. “We went through so much as a town,” said Terry Richards, 56, a lifelong fan of the club as he sat at home in the team’s bright scarlet jersey. “Those were difficult times.”
Players Show Football’s Grind on Their Feet and HandsOver the course of the long and brutal N.F.L. season, players’ feet and hands take a beating on nearly every snap. But in practice a few days later, he was running drills and landed awkwardly, spraining an ankle and stretching the tendons in his right foot. The next week Jones caught six passes for 109 yards and three touchdowns as the Jaguars shocked the Dallas Cowboys, 40-34. “The therapist spends a lot of time on my hands and feet,” he said.
On Thursday, the league announced that games would go on as scheduled and that the Bills-Bengals game would not be made up. noted in its announcement, any decision it could have made would have come with “competitive inequities.” But for most teams, the playoff picture is unchanged. In the N.F.C., three teams — the Lions, Packers and Seahawks — are vying for the last conference spot in the postseason. We’ll update them throughout the weekend, and they’ll all link back to our interactive playoff simulator, which lets you explore any scenario. But we have included a button with each tree if you’d like to explore how ties affect each team’s playoff path.
season, and the playoff picture, while somewhat clearer, remains open. In the N.F.C., just four teams have been eliminated, leaving eight teams vying for three postseason spots. Below, as we did last week, we’ve created a team-by-team guide for every team not yet eliminated. We’ll describe their postseason probabilities conditional on the results of their next games (if they have two remaining): if they win both, win one or lose both. All this will point back to our playoff simulator, where you can explore the scenarios to your heart’s content.
