How the super rich ship their cars
  + stars: | 2024-06-05 | by ( Simon Usborne | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
Hallworth's business, Dan Car Logistics, ships more than 100 flash cars a year. If anything, he says, the flow of wheels has reversed; he’s often transporting cars from London to Dubai for people travelling or doing business there. December was the busiest month, and the biggest destinations for cars leaving the UAE were Frankfurt, Zurich and Chicago. Some of Hallworth's clients have been put off storing cars in cities like London. “We always want the owner’s ID, the registration documents of the cars and to get a feel of the customer,” he says.

CNN —A jury has awarded $9 million in damages to a tennis player after a court ruled that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) failed to protect her from being sexually assaulted by a coach. “My confidence and my self-esteem was gone,” McKenzie said, “both on and off the court.”On Monday, a jury awarded McKenzie $3 million in compensation and $6 million in punitive damages. Shortly after, Aranda began to coach McKenzie. McKenzie alleges that Aranda remarked on her physical appearance, inquired about her personal life and would instigate inappropriate physical contact with her. With each serve repetition, Coach Aranda would press harder and harder against Plaintiff’s body to the point where Plaintiff would almost tip forward and lose her balance,” the lawsuit says.

The US making experimental weapons reveals its lack of ground-based defenses, an expert told BI. AdvertisementUkraine's use of experimental "FrankenSAM" defense systems has highlighted gaps in NATO's own arsenals, according to a military expert. "The FrankenSAMs fill a critical gap" for Ukraine as its allies don't have enough ground-based air defenses to give it, Cancian told Business Insider. He said Ukraine desperately needs ground-based air defenses, with Russia launching major drone and missile strikes on cities and towns across the country. The Pentagon changed its strategy and embraced ground-based defenses again, Cancian said, but he described that realization as taking place "probably belatedly."

This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. In early December, the Pentagon announced technical assistance "to start local production of some of the FrankenSAM projects." Later that month Kamyshin announced that "FrankenSAM" systems were already in use on the front lines. Kamyshin did not mention what type of weapon was used in the strike, which Business Insider could not independently verify. Ahead of another winter of war, Russia and Ukraine are bolstering their air-defense arsenals. The Russian military appears to be sacrificing elsewhere to reinforce its air defenses in Ukraine. AdvertisementAs the start of the second winter of their renewed war looms, both Ukraine and Russia are trying to beef up their air defenses. AdvertisementBut after two years of incessant barrages by Russian missiles and waves of Russian- and Iranian-made drones, Ukraine is running low on air-defense missiles and cannon ammunition. Russian missiles and drones have been a persistent menace to Ukrainian troops and civilians, but Russia has air-defense problems of its own.

They've seen success in using US missiles with Buk-M1 systems and HARM missiles on Soviet fighter jets. AdvertisementWith its air defenses working overtime to defend against constant Russian strikes, Ukraine is working with the US to create new capabilities by cobbling together Western and Soviet systems that weren't built to play together. Reporting earlier this year indicated Ukraine had found ways to modify the Soviet Buk air defenses to fire the RIM-7. The US and its Western allies have offered Ukraine air defenses like Patriot batteries, IRIS-T, NASAMs, and Gepard anti-aircraft guns, but Ukrainian forces continue to operate a number of Soviet air defenses, the Buk and the S-300 being among the most prominent. AdvertisementThe new capability was promising for Ukraine and indicated future modifications to its Soviet systems could be made, like firing US missiles from Soviet Buk vehicles, which are self-propelled, mid-range surface-to-air missile systems.

Ukraine's pilots are now learning to fly Western F-16 fighter jets. So, for Ukraine's allies, it was welcome news that Ukraine's pilots are finally flying F-16 fighter jets. "Some pilots are already undergoing air training with an instructor on combat aircraft," Ignat said during a nationally televised broadcast, according to the outlet. Defense experts previously told Insider that adding AIM-9 and AIM-120 missiles could give the F-16s in Ukraine an "incredible capability" for close-range battles.

Wall Street will be closely looking at Tesla's gross margins to gauge if the trough has passed — or if there's more downside potential ahead. Ahead of Tesla's quarterly release, several Wall Street analysts have pulled back their performance forecasts. Wells Fargo cuts target price Wells Fargo trimmed its price target by $5 to $260 on Oct. 9, leaving its investment recommendation at equal weight. However, we doubt either will be enough, and therefore more px cuts, particularly globally, may be needed in Q4 to hit the delivery target." The broker has a sell rating on the stock and a price target of $125 which, if reached, would send Tesla 49% lower.

Since the 1950s, Ireland has allowed British jets to intercept Russian aircraft near Irish airspace. Irish Air Corps PC-9s fly by an Irish navy patrol vessel in August 2006. SaabThe Irish military has a few short-range RBS-70 surface-to-air missiles that can reach 16,000 feet, backed by Giraffe search radars. Mulqueen said that official Irish and British statements suggest British pilots could intercept intruders but not actually shoot at them. Should Sinn Fein take power in the future, it would be responsible for Ireland's security, including its air defense.

Rare T-Rex skeleton to go under the hammer in Switzerland

[1/3] A 67-million-year-old T-Rex skeleton named "TRX-293 TRINITY Tyrannosaurus" and measuring 11.6m long and 3.9m high, is seen during a preview at Koller auction house in Zurich, Switzerland March 29, 2023. The giant carnivore, named TRX-293 Trinity, is expected to fetch between 5 million ($5.43 million) and 8 million Swiss francs ($8.70 million) when it goes on sale in Zurich on April 18. Standing 3.9 metres high and measuring 11.6 metres long, it is only the third T-Rex skeleton to be offered at auction, and the first in Europe. Discoveries of T-Rex fossils are extremely rare, said Hans Jacob-Siber, a paleontologist at the Aathal Dinosaur Museum in Switzerland. Almost all of the other fossilised T-Rexes are housed in museums, meaning massive interest whenever a skeleton comes up for sale.
Iberdrola reported a net profit of 3.1 billion euros ($3.09 billion) for the January-September period and said geographical diversification allowed it to maximise growth and benefit from positive currency swings. In Spain, however, profit fell by 14% as summer droughts hampered hydroelectric generation, which was almost 48% lower than last year, Iberdrola said. Galan said Iberdrola was not exposed to Russian gas, adding that world leaders have now realised gas market dynamics were "causing the problem and electricity is the solution". The company has invested 7.58 billion euros so far this year, a 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2021. Iberdrola also reiterated its forecast for an annual net profit of between 4 billion and 4.2 billion euros and announced a 5.9% higher interim dividend of 0.18 euros per share, payable in January 2023.
The maker of KitKat chocolate bars and Nescafe reported organic sales, which cut out the impact of currency movements and acquisitions, rising by 8.5% in the nine months to end-September. "We delivered strong organic growth as we continued to adjust prices responsibly to reflect inflation," the company's chief executive Mark Schneider said. "Sales volumes have held up well so far but we are a way from peak cost of living squeeze." As a result Nestle raised its full-year outlook, saying it now expected organic growth of "around 8%" for 2022, up from a 7% to 8% increase previously. The Swiss company also confirmed its target for a trading operating profit margin of around 17%.
