While it might look like the stuff of nightmares, this tiny robot covered in living skin could mark a step forward in the quest to make robots more human-like. It’s the work of researchers in Japan, who say they have discovered a new way to bind living skin tissue to a mechanical robotic surface. Previously, he developed a “living” robot skin — using collagen, a fibrous protein in human skin, and human dermal fibroblasts, the main cell type in connective tissue — that could be applied to a robotic finger and bend without breaking. The new method uses V-shaped holes on the robot's surface to attach the living skin securely. However, ensuring the consistency and quality of the living skin might not be so easy, says Takeuchi.

"Two or three cuts is a forecast, it's not a promise, and we will adapt monetary policy according to incoming information," Thedéen told CNBC's Arabile Gumede. "Our inflation forecast is pointing to a good inflation outlook, we're still already now very close to our target and our forecast has pointed to 2% inflation in the coming months and years," Thedéen said. In order to deliver more rate cuts, "we don't need to have a super positive surprise, we need to have data coming in in-line overall. So I think that would be the main message," Thedéen told CNBC. Headline inflation in Sweden was 3.7% in May, slightly higher than the 3.5% forecast in a Reuters poll of economists.

The average cookout for 10 people will cost $71.22 this year, up 5% from 2023 and about 30% five years ago, according to an American Farm Bureau Federation estimate. That said, consumers have seen prices fall for some specific barbecue items like chicken breast and potatoes, the Farm Bureau said. Two pounds of potatoes cost $1.53, down 17%, the Farm Bureau said.

Southwest Airlines cuts revenue forecast

A Southwest Airlines jet is parked Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Kehole awaiting passengers on January 20, 2024 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Southwest Airlines shares fell roughly 4% in premarket trading Wednesday after the carrier cut its second-quarter revenue forecast, citing changing booking patterns. Southwest still expects record quarterly operating revenue in the second quarter. Airlines are raking in record numbers of passengers but higher costs and growth in capacity have weighed on fares and profits. "The reduction in the Company's RASM [revenue per available seat mile] expectations was driven primarily by complexities in adapting its revenue management to current booking patterns in this dynamic environment," Southwest said in a filing.

Many merchants and trade groups including the National Retail Federation opposed the accord, saying card fees would remain too high, while Visa and Mastercard would retain too much control over card transactions. The decision could force Visa and Mastercard to negotiate a settlement more favorable to merchants, or go to trial. Visa and Mastercard said they were disappointed with the outcome.
