В июне 2006 года Верховным Советом Приднестровской Молдавской Республики был избран первый в истории нашего государства Уполномоченный по правам человека в Приднестровской Молдавской Республике. Особенным этот аспект является в условиях непризнанности Приднестровской Молдавской Республики международным сообществом. Уполномоченный по правам человека в Приднестровской Молдавской Республике - государственный правозащитный институт, созданный в соответствии с Конституцией Приднестровской Молдавской Республики. В своей деятельности руководствуется Конституцией Приднестровской Молдавской Республики, Конституционным Законом Приднестровской Молдавской Республики «Об Уполномоченном по правам человека в Приднестровской Молдавской Республике», иными законами и другими нормативно-правовыми актами Приднестровской Молдавской Республики, а также общепризнанными принципами и нормами международного права, международными договорами Приднестровской Молдавской Республики.
