Antelopes, hundreds of thousands of them, are crossing the savannas of South Sudan. But a report published today estimates that South Sudan is home to the largest known migration of land mammals on Earth. South Sudan, a country in central Africa, has a varied landscape, from rainforests to lush savannas and swamplands fed by the Nile River (pictured). Marcus Westberg He suspects that the migration’s survival and growth is likely to be linked to the decades of war South Sudan has suffered. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 after decades of civil war.

We live in an Orlando rental, but I run the travel-planning business from a cruise ship for three months out of the year. Video calls can be dicey, but voice calls over WiFi work wellMost of my work is using emails, social media apps, and a web browser, so I don't tend to have problems. The upload speed is the most difficult thing about working on a cruise ship. Cruise ships are comparable to remote working spaces, but they offer so much more. Meeting places are usually free on a cruise ship.

Even before she announced her campaign for Senate in Arizona, Kari Lake, a Republican and a favorite of former President Donald J. Trump, has been on a mission to make peace. But now, looking to wrest a seat from Democrats in a key presidential battleground, Ms. Lake is courting former foes and trying to mend fences. In addition to her public overtures, Ms. Lake has reached out privately to establishment Republicans in the state in recent months — including some she personally offended — seeking their support. In some cases, Ms. Lake has expressed regrets about her past behavior, one of the people said. “I think you clearly see a genuine effort to bring more Republicans into the fold.”

Okta has shed more than $2 billion from its market valuation since the company disclosed a hack of its support systems Friday. Okta is a lesser-known name but forms a critical part of cybersecurity systems at major corporations. Zoom , for example, uses Okta to give "seamless" access through a single login to the company's Google Workspace, ServiceNow , VMware and Workday platforms. At least one of those clients said it had alerted Okta about a potential breach weeks earlier. In a separate post Friday, privately held identity management firm BeyondTrust said it had told Okta's security teams about suspicious activity in BeyondTrust's own Okta systems on Oct. 2.

Video calls are broadly considered proxies for face-to-face meetings and therefore are currently subject to little or no formal record-keeping obligations. At least two major global banks are now recording Zoom calls, said sources with knowledge of the matter, who declined to be named because the information is not public. One bank is recording Zoom calls undertaken by certain staff, including traders, while the other is recording all Zoom calls so content can be reviewed later if needed. FINRA declined to comment on how many firms were subject to the rule or whether the rule also extended to video calls. Video calls pose "unique risks" and technology needed to efficiently screen video calls is not widely used, said Matt Smith, CEO of communications surveillance firm SteelEye.

More companies are quietly updating privacy policies to use collected user data to train AI models. More companies have been trying to do what they can to stop their data from being scraped and saved to expand datasets needed to train AI models. Microsoft's updated Terms , for which it highlighted changes going into effect Sept. 30, added a new five-point section on AI Services. The other four points cover Microsoft disallowing any use of its AI services for other AI tools. At the end of August, it created a simple form where users could "request" to opt out of their data being used to train AI models.

Zoom execs told employees Workvivo wins 80% of sales versus Microsoft's "clunky" competitor, Viva. Zoom earlier this year acquired the Irish employee engagement platform Workvivo founded in 2017. Microsoft introduced its own, similarly named Viva employee engagement platform in 2021 and earlier this year updated it to include its employee message board Yammer, now called Viva Engage.
