Teachers would pause and stumble on it, and no one knew how to pronounce it (Courtenay rhymes with Fort Lee), spell it, or how many syllables it had (two). People understood right away what I was saying, and I didn't have to spell or repeat it. I'm impressed and touched when someone takes the time to spell my name correctly, and it's made me hyper-aware of spelling others' names right. Because I always had to spell and repeat my name, I wanted my own kids to have short, simple ones. I once hoped that I might marry someone with a short, easy last name, but it was not to be.

I didn't want to drop my maiden nameWhen we got married, I was 27. Eventually, I decided to use my maiden name as my middle name, a middle ground that would allow me to keep my old name and use a new one. We decided that we would give any sons we had the middle name of Davis, too, and our daughters' middle names would be the maiden names of our mothers. After our wedding, I went to the Social Security office to make my new name, Jamie Davis Smith, official. The one certain thing is that trying to find a middle ground, using a middle name as a last name, has not worked well for me.

As employers shift from formal educational requirements to skills-first hiring, job seekers might want to think about their skills. Even with a shift away from college degree requirements, there could be assumed credentials and levels of education, per the new report. "There's a lot of sectors where it's really common for jobs to not include any educational requirements whatsoever," Stahle said. Controlling for occupational mix, the percentage of job postings that require a college degree has only fallen by 3.6 percent over that period."

The U.N. aid agency serving Palestinians in Gaza faced more funding cuts Monday amid accusations that 12 of its employees were involved in the Oct. 7 attack that sparked the Israel-Hamas war. The allegations over the weekend triggered a wave of funding cuts by major donors, including the U.S., Britain and France. UNRWA employs roughly 13,000 Palestinians in Gaza and says it will be forced to halt operations within weeks if funding isn’t restored. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the boy was killed near the Israeli settlement of Tekoa. Curipod is free for teachers and students to use at the moment, with paid tiers for school districts, said Seip. The team only launched its AI product at the beginning of this year, and had not previously sought venture capital funding.
