Eight daily newspapers owned by Alden Global Capital sued OpenAI and Microsoft on Tuesday, accusing the tech companies of illegally using news articles to power their A.I. All are owned by MediaNews Group or Tribune Publishing, subsidiaries of Alden, the country’s second-largest newspaper operator. In the complaint, the publications accuse OpenAI and Microsoft of using millions of copyrighted articles without permission to train and feed their generative A.I. products, including ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. This, it said, reduced the need for readers to pay subscriptions to support local newspapers and deprived the publishers of revenue both from subscriptions and from licensing their content elsewhere.

The Super Bowl starts at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers. CBS will broadcast the event, which will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Doesn’t matter: Publishers around the world are putting up versions of this story, anyway — with the same keyword-laden text. AdvertisementAs I’m typing this, NBC is currently Google’s top-ranked search result for “What time is the Super Bowl," followed by CBS , which — again — is actually broadcasting the event. And yes: One reason that publishers do these things is because “What time is the Super Bowl?” is a query many people have.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Iris Logan was having a hard time growing grass in the front yard of her St. Paul, Minnesota, home, so she covered the space with stones, statues and decorative art. Logan, 70, has been given notice to clean up the “planters, wood, metal cans, large rocks and miscellaneous debris” cited after a recent inspection, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. The City Council will take up the matter Dec. 6. This also keeps the tree roots clear and provides a place to shovel snow in the winter," Rodriguez said in an email to the Pioneer Press. “The quick support from our neighbors has been a clear signal of how much this art means to our community," Lewandowski said.
