The bodies of Russian soldiers are being left behind in Ukraine as Moscow denies the true death toll. Ukrainian soldiers told The Times they were "genuinely shocked" at how Russia treats their dead. And in one case, Russian troops were forced to fight alongside the decomposing corpse of their dead comrade for weeks, a Ukrainian soldier told The Times of London. The first image was of a fresh Russian corpse; the other was of an older corpse reduced to a skeleton about a hundred yards away. Ukrainian soldiers are "genuinely shocked" at how differently Russia treats their dead compared with how they treat their own, with scores of injured and dead Russian soldiers being abandoned on the battlefield, The Times reported.

The Institute for the Study of War described the Kerch bridge as one of two supply routes for Russian forces in southern Ukraine battling to resist a Ukrainian counteroffensive. The desks are part of a pan-Russian initiative called the “New School Project” and are funded by “United Russia,” a staunchly pro-Putin party. As of early May, United Russia said there were more than 14,000 desks in 9,000 schools across the country. Local news reports suggest some schools use the desks to reward good behavior or good grades. The desks across the country are standardized: green, with military photographs, a biography, medals awarded (often posthumously) and the soldier’s date of death.

NATO's intelligence chief warned this year that Russia could attempt to sabotage undersea cables in retaliation for Western support of Ukraine. Yantar, the special-purpose survey ship, was spotted lingering near undersea cables west of Ireland in 2021. "We know that Russia has the capacity to map but also potentially to conduct actions against critical infrastructure," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters on June 16. "That's also the reason why we have, for many years, addressed the vulnerability of critical undersea infrastructure."
