The outcome of November's presidential election could have major implications for some popular technology stocks. Meanwhile, a victory by Vice President Kamala Harris may lead to tighter AI regulations focused on safety, ethics and protecting consumers. AI chip giant Nvidia is another likely winner in both split scenarios and a Republican sweep. Heightened antitrust controls over Google and its local search monopoly in a Democrat sweep and split Harris government should also benefit shares of Yelp down 27% this year. Republican sweep Raymond James views Salesforce as a potential big winner in a Republican sweep, noting that "more favorable" corporate tax rates should benefit cyclical software names.

"This is only possible, however, if the mobile phone network has effective relationships with security organisations," he said. Cellphones and related technology have played a role on both sides of the war, with Russia and Ukraine using enemy signals to aid in their targeting and strikes. WASHINGTON — A group of Democratic senators are sounding the alarm over T-Mobile's proposal to acquire most of US Cellular, and asking the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission to closely scrutinize and consider challenging the deal. The $4.4 billion deal announced in May 2024 would allow T-Mobile to use part U.S. Cellular's wireless spectrum to improve its coverage in rural areas and give it access to four million new customers. Under the agreement, U.S. Cellular would retain 70% of its wireless spectrum and towers, leasing space on other towers to T-Mobile. In Monday's letter, the lawmakers also ask the Justice Department to consider unwinding that merger, arguing that it cost customers of competing wireless carriers billions of dollars. A spokesperson for T-Mobile did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter from CNBC.

NOAA’s severe space weather watch suggests the storm could trigger numerous effects for life on Earth, possibly affecting the power grid as well as satellite and high frequency radio communications. Moreover, the changes to the ionosphere can block or degrade radio transmissions trying to pass through the atmosphere to reach satellites. And they can also prevent radio transmissions from successfully bouncing off the ionosphere — which some radio operators normally do to increase the range of their signals. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency outlined a similar report in a 2021 presentation on space weather, finding that line-of-sight radio transmissions are generally not affected by space weather except in specific situations. The largest known geomagnetic storm in history, known as the Carrington Event of 1859, caused telegraph stations to spark and catch fire.

Israel Expands Its Operations in Gaza

The Israeli military launched an intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip this evening and said it was “expanding” its activity there. The escalation came after two consecutive nights of raids into Gaza by Israeli forces, which officials described as laying the groundwork for the next phase of the war. “It’s really unclear what’s going on. “It could be that an invasion is already underway and the military is keeping mum about it,” he added. “Or this could be a pressure tactic, an attempt to make Hamas and other militias inside Gaza feel that they are about to be overrun by the Israeli military.”
