CNN —Sally Yates, a former acting attorney general early in Donald Trump’s administration, said voters “have a right” to hear the special counsel’s evidence against the former president before they head to the ballot box in 2024. She was set to serve until Trump’s pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, could be confirmed. Yates, who served in the DOJ for nearly three decades, called Smith “a talented, no-nonsense guy” and praised the strength of his team’s cases against Trump. “I’m not convinced that the government has to prove that Donald Trump believed in his heart of hearts that he had lost the election,” she said. “I think that Attorney General Garland took the right step in leaving the Trump-appointed US attorney in place to complete that investigation,” she said.

CNN —The student newspaper for Northwestern University said at least three former students of its football program detailed what it described as a pattern of racism from coaches and players. “I didn’t feel like I could be anything other than White,” former player Ramon Diaz Jr. said, according to the paper. Northwestern University announced Monday it had fired longtime head football coach Pat Fitzgerald. The move came after allegations of hazing within the Wildcats football program. One teammate asked him why he didn’t play soccer instead of football,” The Daily Northwestern’s reporting said.

A curious bear has become the surprise star of wildlife cameras set up in Boulder, Colorado, taking hundreds of "selfies" in an apparent impromptu photoshoot, local officials said. This particular bear, however, appeared to be captivated by the camera. "In this instance, a bear took a special interest in one of our wildlife cameras and took the opportunity to capture hundreds of 'selfies,'" Phillip Yates, a spokesperson for Open Space and Mountain Parks, said in a statement Thursday. The photo series, which appears to meditate on the ephemeral nature of life, has pioneered a bold new hybrid of self-portraiture and wildlife photography. While officials may not have expected photoshoots to be among those uses, Yates said the images captured by the wildlife cameras can also be used to help recommend measures to protect important natural areas.
