CNN —Longstanding abortion restrictions like waiting periods and provider regulations are now under legal attack in states where Roe v. Wade’s reversal prompted voters to amend their state constitutions to protect abortion rights. But the success abortion rights advocates have had in passing such measures in purple states and even Ohio – where Republicans have dominated recent elections – is notable. Anti-abortion activists say that abortion rights advocates are stretching the constitutional amendments beyond their meaning, suggesting that voters in other states should be wary. Abortion rights advocates say that the legal landscape differs state by state, so it’s difficult to predict the litigation that could come out of the proposed amendments if adopted. There are campaigns for initiatives to expand abortion rights in several other states, but only in a few states so far have abortion rights advocates cleared the required hurdles to guarantee the proposals will be on the ballot.

Like Larissa, she’d just come out of a long term relationship and had sworn herself to singledom, vowing to put all her time and energy into work. The day Rachel ended up on Larissa’s Nashville doorstep, she was supposed to be on a plane to California for work. By the fifth day, Rachel was ready to give up. Then, she filled in the blanks for Rachel, explaining that earlier that day, she’d come out as bisexual to her parents. “I was like, ‘Oh Mom, this is my friend Larissa from Nashville.’ And my mom was like, ‘Oh, cool,’ and she hugged her.

CNN —An urgent rescue operation is underway to save Florida coral species from extinction as a mass bleaching event and die-off from unprecedented water temperatures spreads across reefs in the the Florida Keys. Extreme heat and a lack of rain and wind pushed water temperatures around Florida to some of the highest levels ever observed anywhere. The most significant concentration of coral isn’t located in the shallower Florida Bay, where the readings were taken, but that matters little for coral around the Florida Keys baking in water temperatures topping 90 degrees. “The pictures are frankly horrifying,” Katie Lesneski, the monitoring coordinator for NOAA’s Mission: Iconic Reefs told CNN. Coral bleaching as seen at Cheeca Rocks off Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

The Perseverance rover has captured new images that appear to reveal geologic evidence of a fast-flowing river that fed into Jezero Crater, the site of an ancient Martian lake. The bands of rocks in this image of "Skrinkle Haven" taken by the Perseverance rover may have been formed by a fast-flowing river. The rover also captured a mosaic of "Pinestand," where layers of sedimentary rock could have been formed by a deep, fast-flowing river. The Perseverance team is also analyzing other images taken by the rover. We struggle even with early Earth rocks to answer this question.
After her breakout role as girl-next-door Joey Potter on “Dawson’s Creek,” Katie Holmes has gone on to play many other parts, including writer, producer, director and mom. Still, her teen-drama roots remain close to her heart. When she was starring in the off-Broadway production “The Wanderers” earlier this year, Dawson’s parents were in the audience. “Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Dawson’s mom, flew out with John Wesley Shipp, who played his dad, and they came to the play—which was so sweet and supportive,” she said. (Dawson was famously played by James Van Der Beek.)
An image supposedly showing a poster for Canada’s Scotiabank announcing that all accounts will be automatically transitioned to “digital bank accounts” has been altered. The image is digitally altered, however, and Reuters found no press release published by the bank that all accounts will automatically be transferred to digital ones (here). “I can confirm this is not an authentic Scotiabank poster and the claims in it are false,” Katie Raskina, manager of media relations and issues management at Scotiabank told Reuters. An online search reveals iterations of the same poster without the sentence in italics and dated May 10, 2021 (here). Text was later digitally added to the poster to make it appear as if the bank announced that it will soon automatically transition all bank accounts to digital ones.
“We’re extremely overwhelmed,” said Dr. Rishi Lulla, director of pediatric hematology/oncology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Seasonal respiratory viruses fill children’s hospitals every year, but the number of beds that are full now is well above the average. Driving much of the current need for beds at children’s hospitals is a spike in cases of RSV, which are 60% higher than at 2021’s peak. Nurse turnover is up 50% across the country since 2019, according to Mark Wietecha, CEO of the Children’s Hospital Association. Florence Pugh makes the strongest case for seeing the film, but given how in-demand she is, if you miss this one, don’t worry. (The film is being released by Warner Bros., like CNN, a unit of Warner Bros. By that measure “Don’t Worry Darling” feels more like a modest setback than a major disappointment, but ultimately, it’s hard to call this project as a victory. “Don’t Worry Darling” premieres in US theaters on September 23. It’s rated R. The film is distributed by Warner Bros. Studios, which like CNN is part of Warner Bros.
