The vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance scored more than 43 million viewers on TV Tuesday night, according to Nielsen estimates. An unknown number of additional viewers watched the debate on YouTube and other online platforms. Four years ago, 57 million tuned in to the only vice presidential debate of the 2020 election cycle between Harris and then-Vice President Mike Pence. In 2008, a record 69.9 million watched Joe Biden and Sarah Palin face off on television in the most-watched VP debate, according to Nielsen. But Trump continues to shun offers of another debate, so the VP debate may be the last of this election cycle.

New York CNN —Former President Donald Trump has backed out of a previously scheduled interview with “60 Minutes,” the most-watched newsmagazine in the United States, CBS News said Tuesday evening. “After initially accepting 60 Minutes’ request for an interview with Scott Pelley, former President Trump’s campaign has decided not to participate,” CBS said. In a statement, the Trump campaign denied it had agreed to the “60 Minutes” interview. 60 Minutes begged for an interview, even after they were caught lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop back in 2020. In October 2020, Trump sat down with “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl and abruptly ended the interview when he apparently objected to Stahl’s questions.

That ratings figure was up 7% from last year’s Big Game, which previously held the title for the most-watched Super Bowl of all-time. 120 million viewers watched the sporting event on CBS, the largest audience ever for a single network, the company said. The record-breaking Super Bowl capped a strong season for the NFL, with the NFC championship game on Fox averaging 56 million viewers and the AFC championship game averaging 55 million on CBS. The epic conclusion to an already epic season proved that the NFL is at the apex of its powers. No other event rivals the star power the Super Bowl draws.

New York CNN —Tuning into the Super Bowl used to be easy — flick on the TV and find the broadcast channel or channels it was airing on. Subscribers to both tiers of Paramount+ can watch the Super Bowl, which kicks off at 6:30 pm ET, the company said. It’s the first time Paramount+ has aired the Super Bowl. Attention from the Super Bowl could boost subscribers to Paramount+, which trails in compared to its competitors. For the majority of fans who are watching it traditionally, CBS is available via an antenna for free or through a cable, satellite or live TV streaming services like Hulu + Live TV or DirecTV Stream.

One problem: Voters aren't buying it. The headlines are meant to alarm you. “Millions of older workers are nearing retirement with nothing saved,” CBS News reports. “Only one in 10 low-income workers between the ages of 51 and 64 had any retirement savings in 2019, says the New York Post, citing “a troubling report recently published by the US Government Accountability Office.” Meanwhile, nearly all high-income Americans are saving, an inequality the GAO attributes to the federal tax preference for retirement-plan contributions.

Sharon Osbourne was hospitalized Friday evening in California following "an unspecified medical emergency," according to the Santa Paula Police Department. The medical emergency was "non-life threatening," a source familiar with the matter told NBC News. “I am with you,” Osbourne tweeted in support of Morgan following the interview. Osbourne also recently spoke out about the new Harry & Meghan docuseries while on Morgan's Talk TV show, "Piers Morgan Uncensored." “I was totally bored by the whining, the whining, the whining."
“Band of Brothers” writer Bruce McKenna is teaming with David Broyles (“Six”) and Nick Jones Jr. (“Yasuke”) to write and produce a limited TV series “Buffalo Rangers” about the 2nd Ranger Company, the only all-Black special operations combat unit in U.S. history. The series is being produced by South Korea-based Moving Pictures Company, which has a growing English-language slate. Tim McCoy, a 2nd Ranger company historian for many years, will serve as a consultant to the project. The 2nd Rangers were made of volunteers from other army regiments and were commanded by Black officers. Martin Chase called the project, “a true, forgotten, classic action tale about Black men who displayed amazing courage and heroism in the face of war and seemingly insurmountable obstacles.”
