Nearly 7,000 athletes from 206 delegations were ferried down the Seine today in an extravagant and star-studded opening ceremony to kick off the Olympic Games in Paris.
And Celine Dion closed out the night with a triumphant return to the stage.
Some competitions have already begun, but the Games move into full swing tomorrow with men’s basketball, tennis and women’s swimming (including the exciting 400-meter freestyle).
“Gymnastics, swimming and track remain the heartbeat of the Games,” Andrew Das, our lead Olympics editor, told me.
“Good stories there will make any Olympics more memorable.”
