The New York Jets, 2-3 through five weeks, could have looked at the glass as half full. And despite their 2-3 record, the Jets entered Week 6 only one game behind the Buffalo Bills for the lead in the AFC East. In the five games since they fired Saleh, the Jets are only 1-4. Where has the Jets' season gone wrong? The Jets are averaging 17.7 points per game this season, not even a full two points more than the 15.8 they averaged last year.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams asked a judge on Monday to set an earlier trial date in his federal corruption case next year, arguing the current date would impede Adams’ participation in his mayoral reelection campaign, according to court documents. In a letter to the court, Adams’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, requested the trial to begin weeks earlier on April 1, rather than later that month. He added that the prosecution will “cast a cloud” over Adams’ campaign until it’s resolved by a New York jury at trial. Adams pledged to fight the charges and stay on as mayor. “This was a multiyear scheme to buy favor with a single New York City politician on the rise,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said at a news conference in September.

SEOUL, South Korea — As foreign governments prepare to deal with a second Trump administration, at least one key U.S. ally is hoping to make headway on the fairway. Last month, the U.S. and South Korea agreed on a new five-year cost-sharing plan for the U.S. troops. Maintaining a strong security alliance with the U.S. is especially important for South Korea given the growing hostility from nuclear-armed North Korea. That in turn could lead South Korea and even Japan to consider whether they need nuclear weapons of their own. Stella Kim reported from Seoul, South Korea, and Jennifer Jett reported from Hong Kong.

Democrats are, meanwhile, coming to terms with the massive fallout of their failure to stop Trump’s return to power, even as they dissolve into self-recrimination. They lack a clear leader to revive their message or a platform of power if Republicans retain control of the House. The estate of collapsed crypto exchange FTX has filed a suit against Binance and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao in an effort to wrest back at least $1.76 billion, citing a "fraudulent" share deal. The FTX estate alleges that the share repurchase was funded by FTX's Alameda Research division through a combination of the company's and Binance's exchange tokens, as well as Binance's dollar-pegged stablecoin. Binance denies the allegations, saying in an emailed statement: "The claims are meritless, and we will vigorously defend ourselves." That same month, Binance's Zhao pleaded guilty to charges of violating the Bank Secrecy Act for failing to put in motion an effective anti-money laundering program and for breaching U.S. economic sanctions. In another post cited, he said: "As part of Binance's exit from FTX equity last year, Binance received roughly $2.1 billion USD equivalent in cash (BUSD and FTT).

It was an eventful day for New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi on Sunday. A special teams coach in the NFL since 2009, Rizzi won in his debut as an NFL head coach. And in his first game, Rizzi led New Orleans to a 20-17 win, snapping a seven-game losing streak. That was enough for Allen, who was promoted to head coach from defensive coordinator in 2022, to lose his job. BEIJING — China on Friday announced the central government would allocate an additional 6 trillion yuan ($840 billion) to local governments for tackling hidden debt issues. The policies will reduce hidden debt from 14.3 trillion yuan to 2.3 trillion yuan by 2028, Lan said. At the parliamentary meeting, officials had reviewed a plan to increase the limit on how much debt local governments can issue, according to state media. The additional quota would go toward swapping out local governments’ hidden debt. Nomura estimates that China has 50 trillion yuan to 60 trillion yuan ($7 trillion to $8.4 trillion) in such hidden debt, and said it expected that Beijing could allow local authorities to increase debt issuance by 10 trillion yuan over the next few years.

Sessions, an adviser to Trump in 2016, was one of his earliest supporters when Trump elevated him from the Senate to run his Justice Department. BEIJING – China is widely expected to unveil more stimulus on Friday after its parliament ends a five-day meeting. President Xi Jinping led a meeting on Sept. 26 that called for strengthening fiscal and monetary support, and stopping the real estate market slump. While the People's Bank of China has already cut several interest rates, major increases in government debt and spending requires approval by the country's parliament, called the National People's Congress. Analysts expect an increase in the scale of fiscal support after Donald Trump — who has threatened harsh tariffs on Chinese goods — won the U.S. presidential election this week. When discussing planned fiscal support at a press conference last month, Minister of Finance Lan Fo'an emphasized the need to address local government debt problems.
