There is a wave of pandemic-era startups stuck in limbo right now. The days of seeing 80% to 100% year-on-year revenue growth are gone, Hussein Kanji from early-stage fund Hoxton Ventures told Business Insider. Hoxton Ventures' Hussein Kanji said the days of companies racking up 100% year-on-year revenue growth are over. Investors tend to assess whether a company is IPO-ready on the rule of 40, which is revenue growth plus EBIT margin. Kanji added: "This is a lesson for a lot of people – if the IPO window opens up, take the company public."

High inflation could hang around for decades, according to Ken Griffin. The billionaire investor believes the pandemic and conflicts will usher in an era of deglobalization. The Federal Reserve will likely have to keep interest rates high to suppress soaring prices, he added. AdvertisementAdvertisementInflation soared across much of the developed world last year, prompting central banks to start raising interest rates in a bid to tame soaring prices. Griffin predicted that higher interest rates will now become the norm, with policymakers forced to keep borrowing costs elevated to maintain their target inflation rate of about 2%.

One firm that's perhaps lesser known stands out to portfolio manager Sanjay Ayer, however: Arista Networks — the U.S. cloud-computing and networking equipment company. The social media giant's cautious guidance put pressure on Arista's shares, but the stock remains up around 40% year-to-date. But he added: "Arista is embedded at these companies. They're not [just] an outsourced manufacturer or hardware product provider – they're [also] a research and development partner and they are helping to shape the roadmaps of these companies' networking needs." For Ayer, the company's "customer-centric culture," where its network operators are all trained software engineers, makes it a good investment.

It's not surprising they're trying to bust out of the 2020 Trump coalition, because the 2020 Trump coalition is not sufficient for him to win. Several polls do show him somewhat improved among Black voters. A Quinnipiac University poll in September, for example, showed Trump with 25% support among Black voters. Abortion could be the most difficult pivot for Trump, since he is upsetting activists on both ends of the debate. There is no doubt in our minds who Donald Trump is and who Donald Trump would be if he were ever to return to the presidency."

Caterers, dry cleaners, drivers, and other small enterprises are among those most affected, says one researcher. Todd Holmes, an entertainment industry professor at Cal State Northridge, had predicted a $3 billion blow to California's economy in the first 100 days of the strike. But further scrutiny revealed distinctive features: legs slightly longer than those of most domestic cats, and a striking black-tipped tail. I explored this question in my book "The Cat's Meow: How Cats Evolved from the Savanna to Your Sofa." But tomb paintings and sculptures show that by 3,500 years ago, domestic cats lived in Egypt. Or you can measure the length of its intestines – longer in domestic cats to digest vegetable-based food provided by or scavenged from humans. Dealers lose in the race to get an electric truck in consumers' driveways. Dealers have more to lose than manufacturers, who book revenue once the truck leaves the factory. In an electric truck market where buyers are placing bets on what will arrive first, dealers are likely to be the ones left in the lurch. Listening to dealers about where the demand pendulum is swinging will be crucial for car companies as they roll out more and more electric models in the coming years. Car companies that use dealers book revenue on a car once it leaves the factory (that's one of the biggest advantages legacy car companies have over startups that use a direct-to-consumer model).

Money market funds Assets in retail money market funds grew to $1.99 trillion, according to the latest data from the Investment Company Institute . Further, even as money market funds offer relative safety, they can still face some risk. Don't confuse money market funds with money market accounts. Though money market accounts – which are offered by banks – are protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, up to $250,000, money market funds are not. Certificates of deposit and high-yield savings accounts Liquidity should be a big factor for investors eyeing bank products like CDs and high-yield savings accounts.

CNBC's Investing in Space newsletter offers a view into the business of space exploration and privatization, delivered straight to your inbox. Just over two and a half years after SpaceX's Starlink first rolled out its beta service, the satellite internet company now has more than 1.5 million subscribers. Starlink "introduced a service that leapfrogs the capability, although not quite the cost," of existing satellite and terrestrial competitors. Brazil, he noted, is the most dramatic example of Starlink taking share from incumbent satellite providers, where Starlink has added nearly the same amount of customers that Hughes has lost. With Starlink going after nearly every market vertical – from consumers to governments and everything in between – Prokosh noted customers are often just adding Starlink to existing options.
The years-long push for an exchange traded fund that tracks bitcoin will finally get its day in court this week. The largest of those funds, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) , now has nearly $800 million in assets under management. Over the past year, the market price of a GBTC share has fallen by roughly 60%, according to Grayscale's website. "Ukraine can lose this war," Bremmer told CNBC's Hadley Gamble at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, but Russia cannot win in NATO because of its "pariah" status, Bremmer said. That's a long-term question that goes beyond Ukraine," Bremmer added. Everyone here needs to understand that Ukraine can lose this war," Bremmer said. One of the really interesting questions here – this will be fascinating – the core of linear TV is sports rights. When you look at the size and scope of the linear TV business, it's huge. Patrick T. Fallon | Afp | Getty ImagesByron Allen, Entertainment Studios founder and CEO: I think linear TV will exist for a very, very long time. Simmons: I believe Apple, out of nowhere, will start making their own awesome televisions that have Apple TV embedded in them. We are witnessing early stages of this dynamic with deals like "NFL Sunday Ticket" on YouTube and the MLS deal with Apple TV.

As interest rates rise, inflation lingers and home equity that many business founders use to get started shrinks, small business formations are doing something unexpected – they're rising. If the data persists, the resilience in small business formation points to a "new plateau" of activity that may add millions of jobs to the economy, Haltiwanger says. But the risks include the Fed itself choking off financial conditions so much that the small business boom is smothered. Danny Sweis opened his in the summer of 2022. If that lasts, that means 4 million per year, offset by 2.5 million lost as other small businesses close.

Wall Street bankers in Riyadh renew warnings over world economy
  + stars: | 2022-10-25 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
RIYADH, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Top Wall Street bankers renewed their warnings about the world economy on Tuesday amid geopolitical tensions and steep interest rate hikes to tackle decades-high inflation. Goldman Sachs boss David Solomon said economic conditions would "tighten meaningfully from here" and the U.S. Federal Reserve could hike rates beyond 4.5-4.75% if it does not see real changes in behaviour. "If they don't see real changes – labour is still very, very tight – they're obviously just playing with the demand side by tightening. But if they don't see real changes in behaviour, my guess is they'll go further," he said. Dimon said the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and tensions between the United States and China were more worrisome than a potential U.S. recession.
