The most recent polling on the race, published Monday by The Washington Post and Monmouth University, signals another Trump shellacking: 52% of potential primary voters said they support Trump, compared with 34% who back Haley. Joe Biden's campaign plastered "Dark Brandon" memes across Fox News' website and Milwaukee. The ads went up on Wednesday, the day of the first GOP presidential debate. In 2022, Insider reported that Capitol Hill Democrats are embracing the "Dark Brandon" meme. This isn't the first time Biden has embraced the "Dark Brandon" meme — a combination of the anti-Biden "Let's Go Brandon" slogan and the popular "Dark MAGA" movement. In late 2022, members of his administration shared the meme several times across social media, with one saying, "Dark Brandon is crushing it."

A Trump adviser told CNN that the former president could still decide to participate in a later primary debate, despite his post. Wednesday’s primary debate is the first of the 2024 cycle. “I’m still holding out hope that President Trump will come. Complicating the matter for DeSantis: Trump, the front-runner in the race by far, appears unwilling to provide him with a target. Rival campaigns smell blood in the water as DeSantis has faced questions over profligate campaign spending and his readiness for the national stage. In the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, released last week, Trump held 47% of the Republican vote nationally, with DeSantis dropping six points from July down to just 13%. Rick Santorum, a former U.S. senator and Republican presidential candidate who participated in a series of debates in the 2012 election, said DeSantis will need to be ready for an “onslaught” of attacks. “If I was on that stage, I would be going after Trump,” Santorum said.
