As recently as May 9, Trump’s dominant stake of 114.75 million shares of Trump Media was valued at $6.2 billion. Despite the recent selloff, Trump Media is still valued at nearly $4 billion. Once the lock-up period expires, Trump will no longer be prohibited from borrowing against his stake in Trump Media. Experts say that if Trump does borrow against his Truth Social stake, he may not be required to disclose it.

The weeks-long selloff accelerated in recent days as Trump Media announced it received approval from regulators for a move that threatens to water down the holdings of shareholders. The problem is that even after the recent selloff, Trump Media is still valued in the billions of dollars, and yet it generates very little revenue. New York CNN —Trump Media & Technology Group is asking Congress to investigate its suspicions that illegal activity is driving down its share price. Nunes, himself a former Republican congressman from California, pointed to how Trump Media has been among the most expensive stocks to borrow. Nunes suggested there are signs of “naked” short selling, which involves someone selling shares they don’t own or have not borrowed. Jay Ritter, a finance professor at the University of Florida, said there are more obvious explanations for why some traders are betting against Trump Media. Last week, Nunes wrote a letter to Nasdaq, where Trump Media shares trade, alerting the exchange to concerns about market manipulation.

CNN —The southern Great Barrier Reef is suffering from extensive coral bleaching due to heat stress, the reef’s managers said Wednesday, raising fears that a seventh mass bleaching event could be unfolding across the vast, ecologically important site. Oil prices spiked last month following US-led strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in response to repeated attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. One factor that could be keeping the cap on oil prices is waning demand. “Global oil demand growth is losing momentum,” said the agency in its February report. While global oil demand growth is slowing, supply has stayed relatively strong, potentially putting further downward pressure on oil prices. “Higher global oil supply this year, led by the United States, Brazil, Guyana and Canada, should more than eclipse the expected rise in world oil demand,” said the report.
